With a special focus on deprived urban areas, our programme has active collaborations with other academic institutions and agencies involved in the delivery of primary care / mental health in Limerick and Dublin. Title & brief description of PhD project (suitable for publication on web): Towards optimum care of mental and substance use disorders in deprived urban settings: A comparative cross sectional study of prevalence and treatment of common mental and substance use disorders in deprived urban settings in Ireland (Limerick and Dublin) and Brazil (Sao Paolo). Unique selling points of PhD project in UL: The study will a) provide valuable data on prevalence of mental and substance use disorders in primary care in two urban settings and how these are treated; b) provide the PhD student with an opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary research team at UL and c) consolidate the emerging links between Limerick and Sao Paolo.
