Researc h Centre / group affiliatio n: Food Science Research Centre Researc h group / centre website: Proteins and Peptides Research Group PI website / link to CV: http://www2.ul.ie/web/WWW/Faculties/Science_%26_Engineering/Departments/Life _Sciences/People/Dick_Fitzgerald Brief summary of PI research / research group / centre activity (2 or 3 lines max): Enzymatic hydrolysis of individual and composite food proteins is employed to generate hydrolysates. These hydrolysates contain various bioactive sequences with potential to beneficially modulate human health. In vitro bioassays are used to characterise and direct peptide isolation and mechanism of action studies on enriched/selected peptide fractions. Title & brief description of PhD project (suitable for publication on web): Generation, isolation and characterisation of biologically active peptides from food protein sources Unique selling points of PhD project in UL: Track record in the generation, isolation and characterisation of biologically active peptides from food protein sources. These include from milk, cereal and marine sources. LC-MS and associated laboratory infrastructure for peptide characterisation.
