Geometry/Algebra II MAPS (GMAPS) ~ Classroom Rules & Procedures—Mrs. Girardot
Supplies: Supplies for this course include: a 1 inch 3-ring binder with pockets, set of 5 dividers, notebook
paper, pencils, eraser, scientific calculator, red pen, & lots of notebook paper. A notebook check will be given
on _____________________ and will count as a Quiz Grade. You need 1 notebook for both Math & GMAPS!
Grading Policy:
1. Daily classroom group and individual assignments will be given, and you will have an opportunity to ask
questions and complete all work during class. You should rarely have homework in Geometry MAPS class,
only if you are not using your time wisely in class, if you are absent, or if we are reviewing a topic you do not
remember well from Algebra I. Late work is strongly discouraged, and will only be accepted within 2 days
for up to a 70, except for extenuating circumstances. Field trips are not considered absences (you aren’t
marked absent); assignments due the day of a field trip should be placed in my box on/before the due date.
You may have part of GMAPS class each day to work on your Algebra II, Pre-AP Geometry, or Regular
Geometry assignments, once you have completed all of your GMAPS work and assignment(s).
2. Quizzes/Opportunities—A quiz is a chance for you to demonstrate mastery of the Mathematics essential
knowledge and skills. You will have an opportunity to do this once or twice a six weeks. Quizzes will
always be announced. You must be present, for opportunity only knocks once! If you know of an absence,
make plans in advance to take your quiz. At the end of each six weeks, I will drop your 1 lowest daily grade
(either a quiz or a homework grade). All daily assignments count once. All quizzes count twice.
3. There are no tests in this course, only a final exam, which counts as 25% of semester average (district policy).
Notebook Format—use the same notebook for both your Math and your GMAPS course:
1. Assignment Sheet & Policy/Procedure Sheet—complete w/grades, averages, student/parent signatures.
2. Dividers, labeled as follows:
a. Homework Assignments—titled and in order—corrections done in red, show all work!
b. Notes—Vocabulary/Properties/Example Problems/Pink Sheets—put spiral notebook here.
c. GMAPS—Worksheets, Quizzes, PSAT/STAAR work, notes, College Readiness assignments, etc.
d. Quizzes—Save and correct all quizzes (on separate notebook paper, stapled to front of quiz).
e. Tests—Save and correct all tests (on separate notebook paper, stapled to the front of the test).
Tests corrections are due at the end of the semester as part of the final exam review + bonus points.
3. Front and back pockets—lots of extra notebook paper.
GMAPS Six Weeks Average: All notes, class/group assignments, PSAT, and GMAPS work will count equal in
weight, except for the Six Weeks Quiz, which will count as 2 daily grades. 50% of most daily grades will be the
GMAPS lessons, and 50% will be Algebra/Geometry review worksheets. The Geometry/Algebra II MAPS
course is designed to give you extra time to build a strong bridge to Algebra II and to master concepts you will
see on future tests. This course will also teach study skills, school policies, college readiness skills, and will
prepare you for Algebra II, the PSAT, and the SAT exams.
Assignment Sheet and Averages:
You will receive a new assignment sheet/grade page at the beginning of each six weeks. You are responsible
for getting parent signatures at the beginning, middle and end of each six weeks and averaging your own grades.
Most questions about your progress/average can be answered by looking at your assignment/grade sheet.
