STRAIT RICHMOND HOSPITAL JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Radiological Technologist DEPARTMENT: Diagnostic Imaging ACCOUNTABLE TO: Facility Manager/Director of Diagnostic Imaging POSITION: Unionized – CUPE (Healthcare) JOB SUMMARY The Radiological Technologist is a member of the health care team who provides diagnostic imaging services, and other related duties within the department as outlined in the Job Description, to patients/clients in keeping with the applicable Provincial and Federal Acts, Regulations, and standards of practice governing such a department. He/she works in accordance with the values, vision, and mission, policies and procedures of the Provincial Health Authority and Strait Richmond Hospital. QUALIFICATIONS Member in good standing with the Nova Scotia Association of Medical Radiation Technologists and the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists. Demonstrated excellence in work organization Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills Competence in computer skills Ability to work independently and in a team environment RESPONSIBILITES 1. TECHNICAL Performs general and special radiological procedures in keeping with departmental policy. Maintains an in-depth knowledge of CR, PACS, Xero, requisition scanner and the Meditech system as acquired through formal training, continuing education, on the job training or experience Brings to the attention of the physician any abnormal results that require immediate attention. Performs all processes related to computer input and retrieval of information Performs ECG, and application of Loop and Holter Monitors as required. Documents all pertinent information re patient as required Arranges appointments Ensures that reports are distributed to physicians and/or other hospitals Transports patients to and from the X-ray Department 2. INTERPERSONAL AND PUBLIC RELATIONS Fosters, demonstrates and maintains good public relations with patients/clients, visitors, the public and community Develops and maintains positive working relationships with coworkers and other members of the health care team Confers with other members of the health care team as required 3. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CONTINUING EDUCATION Participates in continuing education programs in keeping with required competencies and skills Keeps current in trends and changes within the profession and within the provision of health care services Participates on committees/teams as part of continuous quality improvement Maintains current CPR yearly o Maintain a level of technical knowledge through literature, educational workshops, and continuing education courses. Ensures confidentiality in all matters pertaining to patients, staff and the facility 4. OTHER RELATED DUTIES Keeps rooms and surrounding areas safe and free from clutter Communicates and documents unusual incidents/accidents involving patients, the public, staff, and equipment malfunction. Performs other clerical related duties as required to maintain departmental efficiency and effectiveness Responsible for the orientation and training of new staff to the X-Ray Dept.
