We apologize for the long interval since the last Marketing Update. Much has happened in the interim, so let’s get right to the news: New/Updated Products VP113TM – A new oxygenated fuel with great sales potential as it makes up to 2% more power than competitive 110 octane fuels for a comparable price. With application in drag racing, circle track, road racing and more, this fuel is destined to become one of VP’s biggest sellers. M3TM – This methanol fuel has been upgraded with lubrication and combustion additives to make even more power and provide better throttle response than any methanol on the market. Motorsport 109ETM – This fuel offers the same substantial power gains as VP’s MS109, but uses ethanol as an oxygenate, making it legal for use in all 50 states including those that restrict the use of MTBE in fuels. Both MS109 and MS109E produce more power than any unleaded fuel on the market. MS109E has application across the board, but one of its most popular uses will be in crate motor racing. U4.2TM – The latest generation of our U4-based racing fuels, U4.2 makes as much or more power than U4 and U4.1, but yields no sticky residu and has a less pungent odor. Designed for stock and modified 4-stroke applications as well as stock 2-strokes, it’s a direct pour-in replacement for U4 with little or no need for jetting changes. Passes AMA amateur fuel rules and is perfect for club level racing, CCS, WERA and AFM. Note that U4.2 contains MTBE, and therefore is subject to MTBE restrictions in applicable states. C23TM – VP has consolidated its C23 family of race fuels, which had included C23, C23+ and C23++. Henceforward, the best performing formula of the three—C23++—will be renamed and sold as C23. The C23+and C23++ brand names will be discontinued. Discontinued Products Oils - VP has made a strategic decision to pare down its “nonfuel” product line, leaving only selected specialty lubricants, including Engine Assembly Lube and M2 Upper Lube. Inventories of all other oils, including VP’s entire line of RS and R Series Oils, Break-in Oils, Gear Lubes and 2-Cycle Oils, will be cleared out and discontinued. StreetBlaze 101 and 103; Motorsport 100 – Previously, VP had marketed its 100, 101 and 103 octane unleaded racing fuels as either StreetBlaze or Motorsport, depending on the target audience. Going forward, we will only offer StreetBlaze 100, Motorsport 101 and Motorsport 103. In conjunction with this change, only StreetBlaze 100 will be marketed as “street legal” and recommended for use in street cars that also will be used for street driving. New Ads VP Racing Fuels – A Performance Part from the World Leader in Race Fuel Technology – A new print ad campaign is under way which positions racing fuel as a performance part, and just as with any hard part, a racer must be prepared to pay for the best quality, which is dependent on technological innovation and expensive chemical components. Each ad incorporates a tagline identifying VP as the World Leader in Race Fuel Technology. Although most ad executions will be focused on new products, this underlying positioning strategy will be a recurrent theme in each ad. “VP113” – Two ads promoting VP’s new VP113 racing fuel have been developed, one featuring David Reher, of Reher Morrison, and the other featuring Tracy Dennis, of Sunset Racecraft. Targeted at drag and circle track racers, both are scheduled to run starting in May in National Dragster, National Speed Sport News, Drag News, Dirt Late Model, National Dirt Digest and other publications to be determined. Click HERE to view. “M3” – This ad promotes VP’s M3 Methanol, featuring Ron Erks, NHRA Super Comp Champion. It’s targeted at drag and sprint car racers and will run in National Dragster, National Speed Sport News, Sprint Car & Midget, Flat Out and other publications to be determined. Click HERE to view. New Promotional Materials VP Authorized Dealer decals – These 8x7” decals are now available in English, Spanish and French. All feature a large VP logo on front and back, with adhesive on the front to stick to storefront windows/doors Click HERE to view. VP Banners – VP now has two versions of its large 8’x3’ banners available – one with VP’s long-time tagline, “MAKIN’ POWER!” and a newer version with VP’s more recently implemented tagline, “World Leader in Race Fuel Technology.” Both can be viewed at vpracingfuels.com (Promotional Items). Sponsorships IMSA – In a 3-year agreement, VP has been named Official Fuel Supplier for IMSA’s American LeMans, GT3 Cup and IMSA Lites Series. A controlled version of VP’s StreetBlaze 100 racing fuel has been designated the Spec Fuel for each series, a positive point that can be leveraged in promoting StreetBlaze 100 to owners of high performance street cars, e.g., Porsche, Ferrari, Corvette, BMW, etc. NHRA “Top 10” Program – To support Sportsmen racers, VP will give free or discounted fuel to all racers who finished in the Top 10 in NHRA’s Sportsman Classes in 2006. Fuel will be dispensed in 2007 at any national event attended by the winners. Details are available online at vpracingfuels.com. Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Contingency – VP will award a $100 product certificate to the highest finishing VP-powered driver in each race, and 5 free drums of Late Model Plus racing fuel at the end of the season to the winner of the highest number of certificates during the season. IHRA Contingency – VP is again matching the contingency postings of IHRA’s Official Fuel sponsor in 2007. 2007 Sponsorship Summary – This spreadsheet outlines all VP’s series sponsorships in 2007. Dirt Late Model (December) – In an article describing a project engine, the article states the engine builder, Kuntz & Co “uses VP fuels exclusively for dyno testing…because of their quality and consistency,” and the fact that VP ships fuel in factory sealed, lined drums. Late Model Plus was also their fuel of choice for the project car at the track. Circle Track (February) – In an article on “Alcohol Maintenance,” the editors highlight VP’s M2 Upper Lube, saying it works well in adding lubricity to methanol fuel and reducing corrosion in aluminum engines. MXP (February) – In their “Gearing Up” section, the editors suggest VP’s U4 to make 6% more power than pump gas in stock and modified 4-strokes as well as stock 2-strokes. Drag Illustrated (February) – The editors reported Pat Musi’s switch to VP from Torco fuel after tests revealed substantial power gains with VP’s C23, C16 and other fuels in his nitrous cars. Robb Report Motorcycling (March) – In an article titled “Ready to Perform,” the editors describe various upgrades available to improve a bike’s performance and cite U4 as a “reliable fuel that can exploit your engine improvements.” Motocross Action (April) – In “10 Best Four-Stroke Mods,” the editors say “There isn’t an easier performance mod than pouring VP’s U4 race gas into the tank. It…offers instant rewards…up to a full horsepower on top of other power gains.” Sport Rider (April) – In “Gear Bag,” the editors introduce VP’s MR10 racing fuel, citing its ability to generate 10% more horsepower than premium pump gas. MR10 was also covered as a new product in 2 Wheel Tuner, Dealer World, Motorcycle Product News and numerous motorcycle websites.
