OBITUARY
ROBIN SMITH
It is with tremendous sadness that we inform you of Robin’s untimely death after a
well fought illness and lengthy surgery.
A man should make his mark and leave a legacy for the next generation – Robin
without doubt did just that!!
A dairy farmer from his youth and then falling in love with Bazadaise cattle to
which he initially crossed on his Friesian type dairy cows breeding excellent cross
suckler cows and beef bulls.
Robin together with Gill embarked on increasing the sucklers and as the dairying
ceased on the farm the Pedigree and cross breds thrived and Robin travelled far
and wide banging the Bazadaise Drum – Robin Smith was Mr Bazadaise.
Robin was always the same, always loved a leg pull and always had a smile on his
face.
He loved it when a Bazadaise topped the market, which he did on numerous
occasions and would give the Limousin breeders who he had knocked off the top
spot a cheeky smile.
I had the honour of conducting the Smiths most recent Production Sale and again
Robin was very upbeat and easy to deal with.
Even in the face of extreme ill health and facing a risky operation Robin was again
laughing and joking and an inspiration to all and certainly many could do with
adopting his attitude.
Robin will be extremely missed by all his friends and family and the agricultural
community, but his legacy lives on and his mark truly stamped.
He leaves the farm in the very capable hands of Edwina and Marcus and wife Gill
who we send our deepest sympathy and Best Wishes at this sad and difficult time.

MARKET REPORT
‘LIMOUSIN DAY’ - SATURDAY 12TH APRIL 2014
Auctioneer: Paul L Gentry
Telephone: 0780 1032846
Strong Limousin demand at Newark 10th anniversary sale sees 93% clearance
Saturday's 10th anniversary Limousin Day sale at Newark Livestock Market saw a bumper
catalogue matched by a strong turnout of buyers which resulted in a 93% clearance and a
top call of 7000gns achieved twice in the bulls on offer.
Females, meanwhile traded to a peak of 5000gns, with semen selling to 550gns/straw and
demand strong for the commercial cattle on offer too.
Auctioneer Paul Gentry said it had been another hugely successful day's trading which
followed the trend set at Newark in previous years. "Newark has once again proven itself to
be the only venue in England capable of selling large numbers of pedigree Limousin cattle to
such an exceptional clearance rate. That we achieved such a success is testament to the
quality of the cattle entered by vendors and the willingness of buyers to invest in great
Limousin genetics."
Leading the day's trading were a pair of bulls at 7000gns, with the first at this money being
the overall male champion from the pre-sale show Millington Hampton fromMillington
Limousins. This May 2012-born Vantastic son is out of the great breeding Brockhurst Option,
a Ronick Matador daughter and carries a muscle depth of +5 with a beef value of +42.
He is full brother to Millington Hawk who was interbreed champion at Lincoln Show,
interbreed junior male champion at the Royal Welsh and part of the winning junior
interbreed group and pair at the Great Yorkshire Show 2013. Buying this one was the
Gascoines Group, Southwell.
The other at this price was the reserve intermediate champion, Coachhouse Hathaway from
Messrs Heald. This Mereside Daytona son is out of the Haltcliffe Hercules daughter
Coachhouse Rouge and was knocked down to G P Mayo, Maidford, Towcester, with a beef
value of +26.
Following him at 6000gns was the first prize winner Ironstone Harley from Smiths of
Bloxham. This son of the 18,000gns sire Gorrycam Diarra son is out of 22,000gns purchase
Brockhurst Batik, a Grahams Samson daughter. Selling with a muscle depth of +5.9 and beef
value of +37, he was knocked down to Messrs Knight, Oundle, Peterborough.
The first bull in the ring then took a call of 5500gns, with this being the senior stock sire
from Paul Dawes' Dinmore herd, Procters Duvalier. This 2008-born son of the 100,000gns
sire Haltcliffe Vermount is out of Procters Vabrielle, a Greenwell Ronick daughter and sired
the 22,000gns Dinmore Foxtrot and 14,000gns Dinmore Foxy. Dulvalier was bought this time
round by to Messrs Clarke, Dunstall, Staffordshire.
Another then sold at the same money, with this one being Ian Brown’s Lowgate Harold. He
is by Threaphurst Dynamo and is out of Lowgate Diane, a Wilodge Visa daughter. Having
stood third in the pre-sale show he sold to Messrs Foster, Garrowby Hill, York.
The Millington team then took 5000gns for Millington Handsome. Sired by the homebred
sire Millington Detroit he is out of Millington Debonair, a Millington Velox daughter. This
one carries a muscle depth of +4.6 and beef value of +42 and was bought by Messrs Player,
Whatton in the Vale, Nottinghamshire.
And also taking 5000gns was Paul Dawes when he sold Dinmore Honkytonk to Messrs
Shucksmith, Alvingham, Louth. Sired by 42,000gns Vantastic this second prize winner is out
of Wilodge Priceless, a Broadmeadows Cannon daughter who is also dam of 50,000gns bull
Wilodge Cerberus. He carries a beef value of +40 with a muscle depth of +5.6 and is a full
sister to Dinmore Hannah, junior champion at the Royal Welsh 2013.
A second prize winner from the pre-sale show, Lowgate Hotshot from Ian Brown then made
4800gns. This one, again by Threaphurst Dynamo, is out of Lowgate Rosie, a Goldies Oswald
daughter. He carries a muscle depth of +4.7 and beef value of +34 and sold to Stratton
Farms, Kingsclere, Newbury, for the Strattons herd.
The Gascoines Group were back in spending mood when they bought the day's junior
champion Lissett Hallmark from James Tennant at 4700gns. This Haltcliffe Eubank son is out
of Homebyres Diamond, a Homebyres Vanhee daughter and has a beef value of +30.
Another senior stock bull, Wilodge Easyrider from John Crofts, then sold at 4500gns, with
this one going home with Messrs Milner, Markfield, Leicestershire. Born in 2009 he was
originally bought for 10,000gns and is by Haltcliffe Underwriter and out of Wilodge

day's joint top priced bull, Mereside Daytona, she is out of Coachouse Britanny, a Haltcliffe

This Mereside Daytona son is out of the Sympa daughter Coachhouse Alpine and sold with a
beef value of +42, also heading to Norfolk with Bowes Farms.
Females
Topping the day's female prices was Chris White’s first prize cow Hartlaw Gazelle. Sired by
100,000gns sire Haltcliffe Vermount and out of Valentine, a Titanic daughter, she was
unsold in the ring at 5000gns, but sold afterwards at 5050gns to Will Ketley, Halstead, Essex,
with her heifer calf, Frogmore Ivy, a Branceille daughter, at foot. She was also back in-calf to
Ampertaine Bravo.
The Heald family continued their solid day's trading when selling the reserve female
champion, Coachhouse Incarnation, at 5000gns. This March 2013-born daughter of the
15,000gns Rachels Ferrari is out of Coachhouse Damson, a Coachhouse Virgil daughter. She
sold to Messrs Phillips, Ashampstead, Reading, for the Drift herd.
Doug Mash then sold at 3600gns, taking this money for the pre-sale female champion
Brockhurst Happy. She is by the noted sire Wilodge Tonka and is out of the French dam
Reseda, herself a Malibu daughter and prolific show winner. Buying this one was H Waring,
