Projects Updates
Sandy Creek Sampling Project
Eric reported that they have recently completed sampling for a rain event, which was #3 of the 4 rain event
samples that they are planning to take. Bacteria results showed significant a rise in E coli around Camp Hill
during the 2nd rain event and the 3rd rain event got high numbers at Buck Creek. Norelle Branch was high in
sediment and running red during the rain events as well. Those numbers were sent to ADEM and they are trying
to determine if the race track is the cause of the sediment problem.
Smart Yards Workshop-Project Fund
Eric reported that he had conducted 2 of the 4 planned Smart Yards Workshops. The first was at Wind Creek
and there were around 14 to 15 participants. Because of the low turnout, they decided to hold the second one in
the evening during the week at StillWaters and they had around 35 participants at that event. Eric plans to
conduct the final two workshops in late winter and early spring.
Eric also handed out copies of a publication that Lake Watch recently published, titled “Citizen Volunteer
Watershed Stewardship of Alabama Reservoirs; the Lake Martin Watershed”.
Electronics Recycling
Denise reported that the Electronics Recycling Event was held on April 19th at the Sportplex in Alexander City.
Working again with Ecovery out of Loxely, Alabama, we collected approximately 12,500 pounds of electronics
which included 60 TV’s, and 32 computer monitors. We had volunteers from Radney School, Constellation
Energy and RSVP, as well as several other Stakeholder members that came and spent the day with us. It was
our most successful year since we began the recycling event.
Septic Tank Workshop
Denise reported that she, Dawn, Missy and Lem were working to contact a list of Septic Pumpers in the area
and planned to meet with them as soon as possible to get them on board for the workshop. They will be asked to
accept the vouchers that will be handed out at the workshop.
Facilitator Position
Denise reported that she had turned her resignation into the Executive Committee due to personal time
constraints related to her position at LMAEDA as well as family commitments. Denise will plan an Executive
Committee meeting in the next few days to discuss putting together a job description and disseminating it out to
Stakeholders to pass along to anyone that might be interested in the position.
Judy Palfrey who was in attendance at the meeting expressed interest in the position.
Other Updates/Announcements
Eric announced that Water Watch Picnic would be held on June 9th at the Fisheries Building in Auburn.
With no other announcements, the meeting was adjourned.
