York County Junior Honors Choir 50 North George Street York, PA 17401 www.theYCHC.org Donna A. Knott, Director tdknott@comcast.net 764-3895 Donna May 2013 Please do not throw any of this information away over the summer and pencil the dates on your calendars now. Dear Junior Honors Choir Candidate and PARENT(S)/GUARDIAN(S), Congratulations! Your music teacher has recommended you as a CANDIDATE for the York County Junior Honors Choir 12th Season. This recommendation signifies that you exhibit an excellent ability to match pitches and to maintain good intonation. In addition, you possess a fundamental ability to read and follow written music and most importantly, you show a willingness to work hard and cooperate with others. It is important that you realize not all candidates will be selected for this choir this year; however, they may reaudition the following season. You and a parent/guardian will be expected to attend a mandatory meeting on Sunday, October 6 2:00 – 5:00 PM. A successful audition on November 2 and January 4 is required. This select group is open to good singers in rising grades 7 – 9 (home schooled students must be age 12). Our concert program will include ethnic, classical, sacred, a cappella, spirituals, vocal jazz, as well as show and pop music with minimal choreography. Our goal is to present a polished, professional performance that will engage AND educate our audience. Most rehearsals/auditions/meetings will take place at Zion United Methodist Church in West York at 1030 Carlisle Road, York 17404. You will be expected to learn the music on your own with the aid of a rehearsal CD and music. The financial obligation for this opportunity will be $170 (paid in 2 installments: June $25, November $145). The tuition includes your performance outfit, t-shirt, instruction, music and rehearsal CD, a professional recording of the final concert and professional group photo. Everything will be yours at the end of the season. If for any reason you cannot meet the financial obligations, please see our website www.theYCHC.org. Click on “Forms” and select “Honors Choirs Scholarship Request Form” to complete the necessary paperwork. No one will be turned away because of financial challenges. Your choral director has given you a packet including: this letter of invitation, the TENTATIVE season schedule and registration form. The deadline to return the deposit and registration form is Monday, June 17, 2013. Mail the registration form and $25 non-refundable CHECK/MONEY ORDER (payable to: York County Honors Choirs) to: York County Honors Choirs, 50 N. George St., York, PA 17401. This non-refundable deposit will cover the cost of music and a rehearsal CD for the first audition in November 2013. A mandatory parent/guardian and student meeting will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2013, 2:00 – 5:00 PM at Zion UMC, 1030 Carlisle Road, York 17404. The focus of the meeting will be to answer your questions regarding the organization and prepare your child for their first Junior Honors Choir audition. You will be asked to make a firm commitment to the audition process the following day. The schedule will be discussed, absentee policy explained, financial payments and/or needs addressed, and the overall mission of the choir will be shared. You will hear from past choir members and parents, meet Mrs. Donna Knott, Director, as well as the Junior Honors Choir staff. Other parents from your school district will be seated with you during this meeting. Students will receive an audition packet at this meeting. It will contain 5-8 pieces of music and a rehearsal CD. The students will learn the music on their own in preparation for their November 2 audition. Please study the attached tentative schedule carefully. You should receive a solidified schedule via e-mail by September 3, 2013. Students will be expected to be present for all rehearsals and performances. If your youth needs to miss more than three please reconsider your participation in the Junior Honors Choir. If there is a conflict with your school’s calendar (music, sports, musicals, etc.), you will be excused from Honors Choir; however, this will count toward the three absences. You will be expected to arrange your work and family schedule (vacations, etc.) so that you can be a dependable, consistent member of the Junior Honors Choir. Communication with you and your youth will be through email. Because of the volume of students involved in the audition process, as well as the fact that they come from all the public and private school districts across York County, email is the fastest and clearest form of communication. You will receive an email of confirmation after the June 17 deadline that your paperwork and deposit were received in our office. (The office will be closed the month of July.) I hope you will be interested in the York County Junior Honors Choir! Again, congratulations on your nomination! I look forward to meeting you on October 6, 2013.
