Last updated 26 May 2004 MARINE ENVIRONMENT & POLLUTION LAW This course is an overview of the international conventions, Australian laws and regulations and policy in relation to protection and preservation of the marine environment, including its interrelationship with shipping. It touches on the Australian Oceans Policy, general marine environmental policy and particular policy and regulation of special areas, including the Great Barrier Reef and the Torres Strait. The conventions, laws and policies dealt with in the course cover most of the applicable international law, Australian legislation and practice relating to the protection and preservation of the marine environment. Monday 12th –Thursday 15th July 2004 SPEAKER PROFILE DR MICHAEL WHITE QC, CENTRE FOR MARITIME LAW. Dr White is the Executive Director of the Centre for Maritime Law. He lectures in maritime Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and continues to practice in maritime matters. He has wide experience in marine law and regulation.
