REGISTERED NURSE/RESPIRATORY THERAPIST
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This course is designed for the practicing Registered Nurse and Respiratory
Therapist interested in advancing their skills with Advanced Diagnostic
Bronchoscopy and Thoracic Ultrasound (including EBUS, EBUS-TBNA,
electromagnetic navigation). Additional training on pathologic specimen handling,
billing and coding, sedation, as well as LEAN processes will be reviewed. This
course is limited to 30 participants to allow the maximum benefit of small groups in
hands-on sessions. At the completion of the course, participants should be able to:
1) Develop a greater understanding of the role of the assistant in advanced diagnostic
bronchoscopy; 2) Be better prepared to initiate LEAN processes into the
bronchoscopy suite; and 3) Be more prepared to offer a streamline workflow from
referral to discharge.
The following agenda includes, but is not limited to, the following topics and is

Thoracic anatomy, lymph nodes, and staging
Bronchoscopy overview
Environment/staffing models
Training assistants
Sedation
Pathology/specimen handling
Referral process
Sterilization/scope washing
Hands-on skill work station sessions:
 General set-up
 Pathology/specimen handling
 Fluoroscopy/ultrasound – knobology
 Electromagnetic navigation
 EBUS/TBNA
 Advanced room set-up
 Specialty equipment – emergency airways
 Expert - thermoplasty
PHYSICIAN
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This course is designed for the practicing Pulmonologist and Thoracic Surgeon
interested in advancing their skills in EBUS TBNA Advanced Diagnostic
Bronchoscopy and Thoracic Ultrasound. This course is limited to 30 participants to
allow the maximum benefit of small groups in hands-on sessions. At the completion
of the course, participants should be able to: 1) Improve their yield with
transbronchial needle aspiration; 2) Develop a greater understanding of advanced
ultrasound techniques; 3) Be more prepared to correct common mistakes in the
bronchoscopy suite; and 4) Achieve a better understanding of ablative techniques
and airway stenting.

 Thorax
 TBNA: non-surgical lung cancer staging
 Ultrasound basics
 EBUS TBNA
 Improving patient management in bronchoscopy suite
 Pathologic handling of specimens
 Equipment and peripherals
 Afternoon hands-on skill work station sessions

 Ultrasound guidance to vascular access
 Ultrasound assessment of cardiac status in the critically ill patient
 Thoracic ultrasound
 Ablative techniques
 Introduction to Stenting
 Endobronchial Thermoplasty
 Electromagnetic Navigation
 Advanced Bronchoscopic imaging techniques
 Afternoon hands-on skill station sessions
