PURPOSE OF THE
JOB:
Waste Strategy Officer
Waste Management Officer
To provide advice and support across the
Council and to businesses on waste related
issues. To manage Council performance
and assist in the management of the
Councils waste contracts.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To lead the management of wastes across the Council including
developing systems and procuring joint services.
2. To provide training for municipal waste compliance, development of
method statements and pro-active assessment of waste service providers
in relation to compliance.
3. To develop performance management systems for municipal waste, and
co-ordinate compliance information and statutory reporting data for the
Council.
4. To review and comment on the impact to the Council and businesses of
any proposed legislative changes relating to waste legislation.
5. To develop support material relating to waste legislation and sustainable
waste management for businesses
6. To liase with stakeholders such as Sheffield First Partnership, business
groups and Regulators such as the Environment Agency.
7. To assist in the development of contracts for wastes.
8. To assist in the day to day management of the Council’s Integrated Waste
Management Contract, attending client meetings etc.
9. To present reports, attend meetings and make presentations relating to
waste services and legislation.
10. Assist in the development of a Municipal and City Waste Strategy.
11. To contribute to the management of the services information through
development of computer hardware and software and office based
systems.
12. To assist in the monitoring of the Councils closed landfill sites through
supporting data collation and analysis, site inspections and liaison with
contractors and other agencies.
13. All duties and responsibilities should be carried out in accordance with
agreed Council policies and procedures having regard to the Council’s
fundamental commitments to efficient service provision, promotion of
Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety culture, a customer focused
approach, good employee relations and the Council’s Best Managed
Council programme.
14. Any other relevant duties and responsibilities as may arise.

A waste or environment related degree or
