TRANSPORTATION AND DEPOSITION
1.
For each of the 3 agents of transportation
(a)
(b)
(c)
put them in order of increasing viscosity
put them in order of increasing power of erosion
list the ways they each cause erosion
2.
List the ways by which water transports sediment. Which of these applies to
transportation by wind and which by ice?
3.
What size ranges of sediment are normally transported by each of the three
agents? Why can wind only move small grains?
4.
In what ways does the sediment change during transportation?
5.
How is material reduced in size by each of the three agents?
6.
List the causes of deposition and indicate which applies to water, which to ice
and which to wind.
7.
Explain the term “rounding” as applied to sedimentary grains. What are wind
deposited grains the most rounded and those by ice the least rounded?
8.
Explain the term “sorting”. What are ice deposits poorly sorted and wind
deposits well sorted?
