The Knights in Lubenham Churchyard (1st thoughts) Note : Highlighted names appear on gravestones 1 Joseph Knight was born in Lubenham in 1841 but later moved to Woodhouse Mill, thereby starting the Yorkshire branch of the family. 2 Joseph’s parents were William Jordan Knight (1793-?) born Lubenham, and Jane Berry (1806-?) also born Lubenham 3 Jane Berry (1806-?) parents were Samuel Berry (1771-?) and Jane Berry (1766-1831:age 65 years) gravestone Lubenham Churchyard. 4 William Jordan Knight (1793-?) father is Thomas Knight (1761-1829 : age 68) and mother Ann (probably Jordan as the maiden name tended to pass as a middle name to a son of the next generation : see “5”) (17661845 : age 79). 5 Thomas Knight (1761-1829) and Ann (1766-1845) had sons William Jordan (1793-?); Joseph (1796-1823 age 26); Ann (1806-1826 age 20); Mary (1802-1831 : age 29); and Charles (1804-1832 age 28 6 William Jordan Knight (1793) & Jane Berry (1806) had 3 sons and 4 daughters. One son John Berry Knight (1825-1857) is buried in Lubenham churchyard next to his grand-parentsThomas Knight (1761) & Ann Jordan (1766) & their children (see “4”), his uncles/aunts,.He was killed in a work accident, described on his gravestone. 7 There is a gravestone to Elizabeth Knight, who died in 1865, age 77, She is probably a sister of John Knight (1782) as she was born in 1788 although she could be a sister-in-law. However the latter is unlikely as normally the inscription would otherwise say “wife of ....” 8 There is also a gravestone for John Knight (1782-1859) and his wife Ann (1767-1850), their son James & his daughter Ann Martin. John is probably brother to William Jordan Knight. 9 Thomas Knight (1761) seems to have been relatively well-off as he could afford to rent a box pew in the local church). The gravestones 1 Thomas Knight died 23 July 1829 age 68 years and Ann Knight relict of the above who died 7 October 1845 age 79 years 2 Joseph Knight son of Thomas and Ann died 27 April 1823 age 26 3 Ann daughter of Thomas and Ann Knight died 6 December 1826 age 20 and Mary also daughter of Thomas and Ann died 1 March 1831 age 29 also Charles son of Thomas and Ann died 7 June 1832 age 28 (something very odd here as father and 4 children all died in a very close space of time and all the children were young adults ......maybe disease or living condition problem such as contaminated water etc ?????) 4 John Berry Knight who from accident at Harborough Brewery died 27 June 1857 age 32 years. Erected by his fellow workmates. 5 John Knight died 5 October 1859 age 77 years Ann Knight his wife died 28 November 1850 age 83 their son James Knight died 27 June 1837 and his daughter Ann Martin died 1837 6 Jane Berry wife of Samuel Berry died 28 October 1831 age 65 years 7 Elizabeth Knight who departed this life 14 April 1865 age 77
