PRESS RELEASE BioFach2013/ Packaging technology / Environmental protection/ Transport security/ ID technology/ Logistics The strong side of the potato Schümann to present sustainable cardboard packaging tape at the BioFach 2013. The success of organic products ultimately depends on their credibility toward end customers. Anyone who wants to survive in this market therefore has to choose the packaging of their natural product in the context of both sustainability and environmental compatibility. It is here that the gummed tapes from Schümann have proven to be a particularly sustainable solution for the closing of cardboard packaging. They consist of paper and potato starch, and are the ideal symbiosis of ecology and security. Stadtallendorf, December 2012. – whether it is organic food products, natural cosmetics or remedies, when it comes to the packaging of their products, manufacturers, distributors and dealers have to keep a keen eye on two specific aspects: sustainability and environmental compatibility. For this reason, many providers of organic products now use non-reinforced gummed tapes from Schümann to close their cardboard packaging. Without exception, this traditional closing product is made from renewable raw materials and provides an exemplary eco-balance when used in combination with the cardboard packaging. Simply environmentally friendly The natural glue on the Schümann gummed tapes is extracted from potato starch and the wood used for the production of the Kraft paper originates from sustainably managed EU forestry organisations which are certified according to the PEFC‐Standard (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification). As the company will be showing at booth 281 in Hall 6 at the BioFach fair, the practical use of the product is as straightforward as it is environmentally friendly: the paper tapes are stuck to the cardboard packaging without using any chemicals and simply through a sparing moistening with water. And even when the tapes are printed with logos or product information as per customer request, the company only uses water soluble inks. The paper tapes can also be disposed of and recycled together with the used cardboard packaging. At the moment, the market offers virtually no comparable tape which corresponds so consistently to sustainability requirements, all the way from the production, to the processing to the problem-free disposal – and which is such good value for money at the same time. For many producers and distributors of organic and natural products the fact that the gummed tapes further enhance safety against tampering and unauthorised opening is a further added bonus. As its natural gum forms a firm bond with the surface of the cardboard packaging a few seconds after its application, traceless opening is almost impossible. This means the gummed tapes from Schümann satisfy another important criterion for the packaging of medical products, cosmetics as well as food products and remedies – safety against tampering and unauthorised opening. Another safety plus is the possibility of imprinting the gummed tape with safety and information or ident-codes. Strict criteria Those who want to present their products at the BioFach event in Nuremburg (13 – 16.2.2013) has to comply with strict selection criteria. Schümann also has to provide ample proof of the sustainability of its gummed tapes each year to be able to present its products at the world's leading trade fair for organic products. This not only includes confirmation that the closing products satisfy all of the legal requirements, but also the assurance that their ingredients do not contain any environmentally damaging materials. The selection criteria also specify that the packaging which is presented consists of renewable raw materials. Incidentally: as another visible symbol for the sustainability of its gummed tapes, the Schümann booth in Hall 6 of the BioFach trade fair will feature an oversized potato on a fork. 596 words with 3,865 characters (incl. spaces) Note to editor: Text and images are available at www.pr-box.de!
