Ancient Medicine

In pairs you are to research one specified area of Ancient history. Each pair must then produce:

 A one-sided sheet providing an overview of the topic (see attached example).

 A one-sided sheet containing no fewer then 5 sources of information that can be used as evidence when answering a question about this topic.

 A PowerPoint presentation outlining any changes, developments of events that had a significant influence of medicine at the time.

 A quiz with a minimum of 15 questions. Questions MUST be saved as a word document AND entered into either Hot Potatoes

(a quiz making machine) or the ‘Create your own’ Fling the teacher function on http://www.schoolhistory.co.uk

 A Sheet providing: links to a minimum of 10 web pages that provide useful information about the topic; links to any online activities and/ or quizzes about the topic.

 A Web Page that contains Thumbnails of 20 images related to the topic.

All files MUST be saved into a folder entitled Medicine_yourname

(replace the your name part with your own name please).

Important Notes:

Information Sheets: These should be entirely your own work. Please do not copy and paste from the internet, that will NOT enhance your understanding of the topic at all. The overview should be simple and easy to access: ideal for glancing at when revising. My example was produced using Publisher, you may use any application you believe to be suitable for this task.

Sources of Information: The should be clearly labeled and the source of information must be stated clearly.

PowerPoint Presentation: An effective presentation will probably start with an introduction. The content will be simplified, the speaker would expand on the points mentioned. Images can be used in any presentations you produce. Avoid adding too many of the available gimmicks that PowerPoint offers, most of them distract the audience from the content. DO use arrows etc. to highlight points of significance

etc. I will show you several examples of PowerPoint presentations to illustrate effective and ineffective methods of using this application.

Quizzes: The questions you ask can only have one possible correct answer. You should add 3 incorrect options. Write and check all of the questions before entering them into any of the quiz making applications. Note: the Schoolhistory.co.uk quiz maker has a ‘send to’ function, this is not currently in operation. Once all questions have been inserted please ask me to save the code.

Links: All of your links must be accompanied by a brief summary about the content of the site you are linking to. Please note that any geocities.com sites will be unavailable to users at Laisterdyke once all of the Internet Security options have been upgraded within school.

Thumb nailed images: When you find an image on the internet that you want to include in your page you MUST save the picture to your

Medicine folder (Right Click on the picture then select ‘save picture as’.

Ensure that you save it to the Medicine Folder). Use a Picture editor to resize the image and re-save it WITH A DIFFERENT NAME (ie A picture sized 400x250 called picture.jpg should be resized to approximately

100x75 and renamed picture_small.jpg). Resizing the image and NOT renaming the newly sized image will mean that a large version of the graphic is not available!

For each image also make a note of the site that you took the picture from. This information must be included in your web page.

Timescale: You will be given 4 lessons to complete this mini project and 3 history club sessions will be dedicated to it. Should the work not be completed by the end of this period of time it will be your responsibility to complete it at Homework Club and/ or at home.
