It is not necessary to take one grade after another. Practical Exams (all instruments and voice) 1. Discuss with your tutor whether you are ready to enter for an exam - we advise that you do this well before our closing date and that you do not take a grade exam unless your tutor is confident of a very strong pass. 2. If your tutor recommends that you take an exam, your family must fill in the form overleaf and return it to us, with payment for the correct exam fee. 3. If you have any specific needs, (eg dyslexia) your family must provide details on the form overleaf. 4. If you are entering for a practical exam at Grade 6, 7 or 8, you MUST have passed Grade 5 theory beforehand. A Grade 5 theory exam cannot be taken in the same term as a Grade 6, 7 or 8 practical exam. 5. We will contact you with the exact time and date of your exam a minimum of 3 weeks beforehand. 6. If you require a pianist, a rehearsal will be scheduled with him/her before your exam (for students Grade 5 and below, this rehearsal may take place on the same day as your exam). 7. We strongly recommend that, if you are taking two separate performance exams within the same exam period, you take your exams on two separate days, unless this is totally unavoidable. 8. We recommend that you read the ABRSM’s Special Consideration policy before you sit your exam. 9. We will mail your exam result and examiner’s report immediately on receipt of these. This is usually between 3 and 6 weeks after the exam has been taken. 10. If you wish to appeal against the result of your exam please read the ABRSM’s Appeals Procedures and contact us immediately. Theory exams Junior Conservatoire students usually sit theory exams in the Summer Term (June) on a Saturday in College. If you wish to take a theory exam during the Autumn or Spring Terms, please be aware that these take place on a week day, not in College. Please contact us for details on how to enter.
