The Meadowlark Photography Expo will be February 3-4, 2007. Photos will be collected at the MPC meeting on January 10, 2007.

For more info: www.MeadowlarkPhotoExpo.org

Calling all McLean Photography Club nature photographers! The Meadowlark Photo Expo is your opportunity to exhibit your nature photos in a juried show that will be visited by over 2000 people. In addition, there will be a reception for all club photographers on Saturday evening.

The 5th annual Meadowlark Photo Expo will be held February 3-4th at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens located in

Vienna. It is the premier nature photography exhibition where photographers from all the clubs in Northern Virginia exhibit their photographs.

To participate in this event, you need to submit your photo to your Meadowlark Representative, Minnie Gallman, before Friday January 12th. On Saturday, January 13th, 3 judges will determine which photos will be exhibited. The guidelines for submitting photos are posted on the Meadowlark Expo website - www.MeadowlarkPhotoExpo.org. The guidelines are similar to previous years except the size of mat has been changed for photos 8x10 or smaller and photos are not limited to the locations in the US.

In addition to the Photo Expo, George Lepp will be the keynote speaker on Friday February 2nd. For details to purchase tickets, see the website. Tickets will also be available at the club meetings.

Of course an event of this magnitude needs volunteers to run it. This year McLean Photography Club will be at the front door to greet people, hand out flyers on the day's activities, and collect the suggested donation of $3. Therefore, on Saturday the 3rd, we need 6 people to cover the three shifts of 2 people each. Also, we are providing a volunteer to at the sales desk for the first shift on Saturday. In addition, there is a McLean Photography table at the Expo from which you can sell nature themed products such as note cards, calendars, etc. If you are planning to enter the expo, we hope you are available to volunteer.

Sign-up sheets will be available at the November meeting for volunteers. Because there is no meeting in December, your representative will be accepting entries for the show at the January 10, 2007 meeting or at her home (6744 Baron

Road) located 2 miles from the Community Center. Contact your representative, Minnie Gallman via e-mail pggallman@verizon.net or 703-356-0856 if you have any questions or want to drop off your matted prints..

Hawks and Owls:

The Raptor Conservancy of Virginia is interested in bringing a variety of hawks and owls to Meadowlark Botanical Gardens for a fall foliage photography session. This is in response to growing interest in raptor photography and, with the brilliant fall foliage, will yield stunning photographic results while helping the Conservancy protect and rehabilitate injured birds.

The cost will be $25 per person for a 45-minute session starting at 9:00 AM and running on the hour until 1:00 PM. A minimum of 20 people MUST register with the

Conservancy prior to the event. Groups, however, will typically be small and there will be a sufficient number of birds and handlers available to allow all photographers ample time to take lots of photographs in the wild.

The date for this event has NOT been selected because the Conservancy wants to time it for maximum fall colors. Interested photographers, thus, MUST contact the

Conservancy and they will advise you how to check for the final date AND they will arrange to call you in advance of the event if you provide your telephone number and/or email address.
