Full Time - 12 Months Fixed Term
An exciting opportunity has arisen with the Faculty of Medicine and Health for a pro-active results
orientated HR Professional to join the team for a period of 12 months. You will provide a
comprehensive HR service under the direction of the HR Manager including having your own case
work and specific projects to manage.
To be successful in this role, you should have experience of advising on HR policy, practice,
recruitment and complex employee relations cases. Being fully CIPD qualified, you will also
possess excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills as well as being skilled at
handling challenging conversations and situations. A proven track record in delivering practical
results and the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines is essential.

Purpose of the post
You will be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, pro-active operational HR service to
the National Institute of Health Research Clinical Research Network Coordinating Centre (NIHR
CRN CC), which is hosted by the Faculty of Medicine and Health. Working closely with the Chief
Executive and Chief Operating Officer, you will have direct involvement in case management
including absence management, supporting grievance and disciplinary investigations and the
management of fixed term contracts as well responsibility for recruitment and selection within the
CRN CC. You will also be responsible for providing practical advice to both managers and staff
within CRN CC on University of Leeds and NHS employment policies and procedures and terms
and conditions of service.
In addition you will manage the HR Assistant based within CRN CC and support the HR Manager
with delivery of appropriate training.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The points below provide a framework for the role of HR Officer and should not be regarded as a
definitive list of duties and responsibilities, which may develop and change over time.













Under the supervision of the lead HR Manager be responsible for the provision of a high
quality, proactive HR service across a full range of activities.
To provide practical advice, help and support on the application of terms and conditions, the
interpretation of employment policies and procedures and to assist in the writing and
implementation of new policies and procedures.
To coordinate and advise on all aspects of Recruitment and Selection including advising on
effective recruitment practices and advert, adding value to the process by ensuring highest
calibre appointments made and to contribute to the interview process as a full panel
member.
To be pro-active in the management of sickness absence and other absence including
monitoring absence data, attending sickness review meetings with staff and managers,
assisting with referrals to occupational health and drafting all appropriate correspondence.
To be involved in the promotions procedures and role analysis across the Faculty – this will
include being a fully operational Faculty Role Analyst and to provide expert advice on role
analysis.
To be responsible for the management of fixed term contracts and advise managers
accordingly on the fixed term workers regulations and relevant policies linked to your areas;
To assist in the continued promotion and implementation of the University Redeployment
framework including;
 Liaison with departments to source vacancies and negotiate openings for
redeployees;
 To assist redeployees in their job search;
 To promote the effectiveness of redeployment throughout the Faculty and wider
University.
To be involved in the roll-out of SAP HR modules and to produce and manipulate reports
from SAP as and when required.
To support and run workshops and training activities on a range of HR matters as required.
To support the continued implementation and management of Staff Review and
Development Scheme (SRDS).
To work effectively with Trade Unions ensuring relevant consultation and negotiation takes
place where appropriate.
To provide advice on casework issues including absence management, grievance,
performance management and disciplinary cases.
To attend the promotion and progression meetings as and when appropriate.






To be involved in project work as directed by your HR Manager.
To be involved with the wider University HR team including attendance at regular meetings.
To contribute to the development and implementation of the HR Strategy and new ways of
working.
To undertake any relevant training.
Any other duties which may be commensurate with the role and grade.
To line manage the HR Assistant within CRN CC.

Person Specification
Essential

CIPD qualified - Level 7;

Excellent written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills;

A proven track record in delivering practical results;

Ability to innovate and exercise initiative and proactivity;

Experience of establishing and maintaining effective rapport and working relationships and
communicating at all levels;

Excellent team player;

Ability to interpret HR policy across multiple organisations, employment legislation and
