Faculty of Medicine and Health Human Resources Trainee Human Resources Officer Full Time An exciting opportunity has arisen with the Faculty of Medicine and Health for a pro active individual with a non bureaucratic approach to commence a Human Resources Officer training programme. You will assist in the provision of a comprehensive, pro active HR service, under the direction and close supervision of the mentor HR Manager. This post is designed as a development post to allow you to gain the skills needed to undertake the main responsibilities required for a Human Resources Officer. You will be CIPD qualified or working towards qualification with a commitment to developing a career in HR and will have a problem solving approach to your work. With hands on experience working in an HR environment with direct involvement in case management (eg absence management, supporting disciplinaries, management of fixed term contracts), you will also have excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills and skilled at handling challenging conversations. Under the direction and supervision of the lead HR Manager to be responsible for the provision of a high quality, pro active HR service to a designated area/areas within the Faculty across a full range of activities 2. To provide practical advice, help and support in the implementation of employment policies and procedures within the Faculty 3. To be involved in all aspects of Recruitment and Selection within the Faculty including advising on effective recruitment practices, involvement in appointment panels as a member, support of the recruitment team and campaigns 4. To be pro-active in the management of sickness absence including attending sickness review meetings with staff and managers, assisting with referrals to occupational health and drafting all appropriate correspondence 5. To be involved in the promotions procedures and role analysis across the Faculty – this will include being a fully operational Faculty Role Analyst 6. To assist in the management of fixed term contracts across the faculty and advise managers accordingly re the fixed term workers regulations and relevant University policies 7. To accurately report on the progress of fixed term contracts and manage the monthly submission of the Employment Security Review Group spreadsheet 8. To assist and support the successful local maintenance of the ‘Follett’ report recommendations, which deals with appraisal, disciplinary and reporting arrangements for senior NHS and University academic staff and the successful maintenance of the new Consultant contract 9. To assist in the continued promotion and implementation of the University Redeployment framework including; Liaison with departments to source vacancies and negotiate openings for redeployees To assist Faculty redeployees in their job search To promote the effectiveness of redeployment throughout the Faculty 10. To be involved in the roll-out of SAP HR modules and to produce and manipulate reports from SAP as and when required 11. To be actively involved in the development and provision of Faculty Training Programmes e.g. Recruitment and Selection, Training for Reviewees etc 12. To be involved in the continued implementation and enhancement of quality of SRDS 13. To provide advice and help to managers and staff on Terms and Conditions of Service 14. To learn to work effectively with Trade Unions ensuring relevant consultation and negotiation takes place 15. To advise on grievance and disciplinary issues and be involved in investigations and hearings as appropriate 16. To attend the promotion and progression meetings as and when appropriate and be able to advise on the process and criteria for applicants 17.
