Planning Grid Autumn 1 Subject: Autumn 2 Religious Education Spring 1 Spring 2 Year: Summer 1 Relationships Right and Wrong Power Space Time The meaning of relationships This will give the students the opportunity to explore the different relationships they have. They will also reflect on the idea of forgiveness. Standing by this will enable students to consider the role of the bystander. The meaning of power will enable the students to investigate the term ‘power’ and to recognise that power is not always used wisely. Space to be me will enable students to see they are unique and to recognise there are a range of influences upon our beliefs, values and traditions. Ticking away will ask students to consider the importance of times of reflection in their own and others lives. Marriage as a relationship will let pupils examine the value of parental input in the choice of marriage partner. The will also look at the Hindu example of Rama and Sita and their relationship. Treating people differently to focus in particular on the work of Martin Luther king. How can we achieve success? For pupils to reflect on how success can be achieved and to learn from Harmander Singh. Relationships with God To examine how people communicate with God. Bystanding will enable students to investigate how bullying and discrimination dehumanises and to reflect upon their own actions. Actions speak louder than words will enable students to learn about the work of a range of religious charities and investigate the ways people can help others. Service to all to reflect upon the meaning of service for pupils own lives and an example from the Sikh religion. Speaking out will enable students to challenge the stereotypical portrayal of ‘meek and mild’ Jesus and to recognise the importance of challenge to state authority. Positive and negative power this will involved students looking at specific examples where power was used to cause harm and where it was used to attain freedom. The power of authority Students examine challenges to power and examine Nelson Mandela. The power of God will enable students to understand what power God has and how it is used. To consider miracles as an example. The power of me! Personal reflection and looking at how Muslims use their power over themselves. Power and belief through the story of Gur Gobind Singh Ji. Space to show the real me by students examining clothing as an identity. To understand the importance of wearing the Hijab for many Muslim women and consider how clothing can express beliefs and values. Space to find me This will involve students considering times when space for reflection is needed. They will also learn about the role of retreat centres in many religious traditions. Space to show what I believe will involve the students recognising that beliefs and values may be different to that of friends and family Protecting our space will involve students looking at a range of religious pressure groups. A time to resolve will ask students to recognise that there are a range of times that people may reflect. For students to reflect upon the temptations of Jesus for their own life experiences. Past mistakes will involve students looking at the diversity of practices amongst Christian denominations. It will also involve students reflecting upon their own experiences of forgiveness and forgiving. Reflecting on the past will involve the students learning from the Jewish tradition of atonement. They will also consider the importance of a set time for repentance e.g. Rosh Hashanah in Judaism. Lessons from the past to recognise importance of past to shape the future – role of the Buddha. 8 Summer 2 Summer examinations Communication without words Students will consider how people overcome difficulties when they are communicating with others. Freedom of Speech This will involve students looking at examples where communication is restricted. To look at what happened when China invaded Tibet. Every picture tells a story looks at how artwork can be used to communicate ideas. Students will also examine various examples of religious art and try to understand what is being communicated. Communication with God will involve students reflecting on the concept of God and what this means for believers. To consider Muslims’ beliefs about Allah
