530 SLAUGHTER CATTLE SOLD TODAY
YOUNG BULLS TO 239.5p
OTMS TO 233.5p
STEERS TO 257.5p
HEIFERS TO 267.5p
OVERALL MARKET AVERAGE LEVELLED AT 213.81p
Young Bulls - 197 averaged 201.74p
Another excellent entry of young bulls on offer today in a week when trade has been
reduced across the country both live and dead. It does make you wonder who or what the
extreme heat benefits??
Without doubt certain cuts are extremely good to sell, however roasting joints are virtually
impossible to shift.
Again today we saw too many bulls that were well bred but needed feeding longer and
some horrifically plain Holsteins.
Saying all that trade today was still better than anticipated with averages reduced by some 5
pence on the week.
Top bull today was consigned by Ian Wildgoose who sold Limousins to 239.5p - £1324.44,
James Mills sold Limousins to 237.5p - £1320.50 and £1180.38 with another Limousin at
235.5p - £1349.42 and Blues to 234.5p - £1364.79 and 233.5p - £1363.64, Messrs G &JE
Billings sold Blondes to 236.5p - £1303.12. David and Rachel Burns sold Limousins to 234.5p
- £1751.72. Doug and Rachel Gascoine sold Limousins to 233.5p - £1370.65.
Today E graded bulls 232p plus with U+’s 225-231p and –U grades 217-224p and R grades
208-215p with O+’s 200-207p, bulls that were fat Class 1 through the grades were
discounted by 10 pence per kilo.
Black and White bulls with meat were very well sold at 182-194p with the odd very good
Friesian getting to 200p, plainer bulls were a different story with –P lean bulls 148-158p.

CULL COWS AND OTMS – 125 Averaged 148.57p or £1014.75
Again a very decent entry and all sorts of doom and gloom about deadweight reductions
and horrific trades elsewhere this week – however our cows and OTMS were DEARER on the
week.
Top cow today was consigned by Paul Barwood who sold Bulls to 221.5p - £1446.40, Messrs
Manor Farms sold Limousins to 213.5p - £1456.07 and 199.5p - £1412.46 and older
Limousins to 189.5p - £1345.45.
Today all the best finished suckler cows R grade and better 160p plus with plainer types 150158p and real plain sucklers 120-130p.
Today some very well finished black and whites which were a fast trade selling from 140150p, plainer sorts 128-135p and very plain Holsteins 112-120p with horrors –P1’s 90-110p.
OTMS clean cattle were a better sample and again dearer on the week.
Again the heifers led the way this week with Paul Barwood selling Limousins to 233.5p £1419.68.
Alan Twell sold Limousins to 228.5p - £1480.68 and Messrs Manor Farms sold Limousins to
215.5p - £1411.53. Paul Barwood sold Simmentals to £1633.73.
Stock Bulls were a good entry and again a very good trade with Maureen Gregory selling
Blues to 182.5p - £1907.13. Mr A Clifton sold Limousins to 166.5p - £1898.10. A great
result – more required

A very small entry as producers shy away from the trade having heard deadweight

Spring Lamb SQQ 161.39p/kg – Overall Average 162.10p/kg
Again what a difference in a week, the trade seems to continue to slide, with reports of
plenty of lambs in lairages and no orders for carcases in stock! With this plenty of people
have decided to wean and forget the lambs for the time being, coupled with the “Monsoon”
that hit the area on Monday we were half the number seen last week
