Our invited speakers were really excellent and gave lectures of the highest quality. Those who attended gave very positive feedback and we learnt a lot from them. The IAP (SA) invited speaker was Prof Runjan Chetty, who is currently working as President: Professor D Govender Secretary: Dr K Taylor Treasurer: Dr M Duffield Professor of translational pathology at Oxford University. He travelled around the country after the congress giving lectures and adding in a few extras. The lectures were on a variety of subjects, but mainly GIT pathology. Prof Sarah Pinder from London, who is a breast pathologist at King’s college London and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, was kindly sponsored by the British division of the IAP. She also travelled around the country to the various centres. It was a privilege to have had two such wonderful speakers. We were also really fortunate to have an additional speaker Prof Andrew Field, who was invited by cytopathology. He also contributed some really interesting and informative cytopathology lectures. Thanks and congratulations to the organisers of the congress, the University of Witwatersrand, for organising such a successful meeting. 3. 52nd ANNUAL CONGRESS OF THE FSASP 2013 The next FSASP congress will be held in Cape Town. The dates are still to be decided and this conference will be combined with the technologists’ conference. The usual FSASP congress will not be held next year as the IAP international meeting is to be held in Cape Town in 2012. 4. 29TH INTERNATIONAL IAP CONFERENCE, CAPE TOWN 2012 The International IAP Conference will be held in Cape Town from 30 September to 5 October, 2012 at the Cape Town International Conference Centre. The next travelling seminar will be presented in 2012 by Prof Jos Hille, oral pathology. The dates are still to be decided but the seminar will probably take place in April or May. 6. MEMBERSHIP AND ANNUAL FEES Thank you to all those who have joined the IAP and renewed your fees this year. Your membership is greatly valued, as this allows us to invite (and pay for) expert speakers, develop our website, and hopefully in the future form working relations with those outside of our borders. The IAP fees remain unchanged this year. Please would all departments encourage registrars to join the IAP (SA) as we need their input, and want as many as possible to be involved. A new membership form will be sent out early next year with updated bank details. Please would everyone try to pay as early in the year as possible to assist with the tax return and also because we have to pay fees to the International IAP based on the number of members we have. If you wish to enquire about membership status up to the end of 2011 the person to contact is Dr Maureen Duffield at Maureen.Duffield@uct.ac.za, but from 2012 your new treasurer will be Dr Peter Swart at peter.swart@nhls.ac.za. Please also if you have changed your home address or email address, or you discover people that are not on the mailing list send the details to the new secretary, Agata Czajkowski at agata.czajkowski@nhls.ac.za. Some of my email contacts are very out of date and some of the people cannot be located. 7. IAP (SA DIVISION) WEBSITE The IAP (SA) website can be visited at www.iapsouthafrica.co.za. We had a completely new website developed last year, so please all have a look. The editorial committee comprises Johann Schneider and Wayne Grayson. If you have interesting news, teaching cases or educational material you would like to put on the website contact Johann Schneider at jws2@sun.ac.za. If there are articles you think every anatomical pathologist/ forensic pathologist should read then send these to Johann. Anyone is welcome to make a contribution. Research collaboration is also possible via the website. I would like to encourage everyone to contribute. President: Professor D Govender Secretary: Dr K Taylor Treasurer: Dr M Duffield 8.
