Global Education Committee Meeting Minutes

 Indonesian Colleagues’ Visit (Stambach)
 Aman Wira, UW Alum and 3 other Indonesian colleagues from the
Indonesian Board of National Education Standards visited in late October
 Indonesian government setting standards for K-16 education
 Agreement with UW Madison signed October 31st
 Collaborations possible include- researcher, teacher and language exchanges
 China trip/initiatives
 M. Hawkins visited two institutions- Shaanxi Normal University and
Zhejiang University
 We have an institutional relationship with Zhejiang
 History of UW affiliations and site visits
 Shaanxi is a new opportunity
 Different experiences from each
 Zhejiang-well established program
 Shaanxi- wants to establish creative modes of partnering
 Large efforts to recruit in China (B. Martin’s focus)

The committee voted unanimously to decline funding this proposal.
In an effort to mentor Jr. faculty and encourage international activities, Maggie will craft

 How do we pull people in?

 Look at what others are doing



 Define engagement
