TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES Policy 1.0 – Code of Conduct Policy 1.0 - TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE Code of Conduct PURPOSE The purpose of the following is to ensure the conduct of all members of the TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE is appropriate and consistent with the core values of the association. POLICY NUMBER Policy 1.0 - Code of Conduct CODE OF CONDUCT Representatives of the TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE are expected to be leaders of young men and women both on and off the ice. Members’ conduct must reflect their commitment to the core values of the TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE. Each member must support a cooperative and respectful relationship with his/her fellow members and recognize that everyone is a valuable contributor to the overall success of the TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE. In order to maintain a well-respected and safe environment, certain conduct will not be tolerated. Engaging in actions inconsistent with the core values of the TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE is grounds for disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from the association. FREEDOM FROM DISCRIMINATION, HARASSMENT, AND RETALIATION The TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE is committed to providing an environment that is free of discrimination and harassment. The TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE provides equal opportunity to all members without regard to race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, or any other basis protected by law. The association expects that all persons having business with the TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE will be treated with dignity and will have their rights respected. As such, the TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE maintains a zero tolerance policy in regards to all matters of discrimination and harassment and demands responsible behavior on the part of all members of the TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE. Whether conduct constitutes harassment may depend on whether it is viewed as offensive by the individual who is the subject of the conduct. In other words, a member of the TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE may violate this policy without intending to harass. Examples of conduct that may constitute harassment include unwelcome physical conduct; threats or intimidation; displaying offensive items or pictures; and making jokes or inappropriate comments about a person's age, race, gender, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, marital status or disability. One act or a series of acts may constitute harassment. Retaliation against a person(s) who in good faith reports or participates in the investigation of a discrimination or harassment allegation is strictly prohibited. COMPLAINT PROCESS Anyone who believes that he or she has been subjected to or witnessed activity or behavior that violates this policy should make the TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE and its Officers aware of such conduct. Notification should be made to the Governor of a Member Organization and/or the Commissioner of the TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE. The TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE takes discrimination and harassment complaints seriously. TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES Policy 1.0 – Code of Conduct The TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE will investigate all discrimination and harassment complaints in a timely and impartial manner. The TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE will use its best efforts to protect the privacy and reputation of all individuals concerned, maintain confidentiality throughout the investigation process and share information only on a need-to-know basis. The TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE assures that persons against whom allegations are made are treated fairly. DISCIPLINARY ACTION Violation of any Code of Conduct of the TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE will subject the offending person(s) to disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from the association. RELATED POLICY DOCUMENTS Core Values - The TIER 1 ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE provides a wonderful opportunity for the young men and women playing on the member teams to chase their hockey dreams. Maximizing a player’s individual potential is dependent upon a number of factors outside of on-ice hockey skills. Therefore, it is incumbent upon each member organization to assist each player’s individual effort to take control of his personal development and build the blocks of a solid foundation for lifelong success.
