You will not receive a completion card if the books are not returned. Course Calendar Day One: Health Care Provider CPR (should complete skills testing) Day Two: Written Exam CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, and First Aid Bloodborne Pathogens Course Course Description Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogens Course is a classroom course that teaches employees how to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood or blood-containing materials. This course is designed to meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements for bloodborne pathogens training when paired with site-specific instruction First Aid Course Course Description First Aid is the immediate care given to the injured or suddenly ill person. It is the temporary assistance that is rendered until competent medical care, if required, arrives and takes over. This is a basic program that will concentrate on the first five minutes of care. If your work or lifestyle places you in locations where the EMS (Emergency Medical Services) response time is questionable, we recommend that you participate in a first responder program. Properly applied first aid can save lives, reduce recovery time, and quite possibly be the difference between temporary disability and/or lifelong disability of the victim. CPR for the Healthcare Provider Course Course Description: The BLS Healthcare Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or non-licensed healthcare professionals. Intended Audience: Healthcare providers such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, and other allied health personnel. Instruction Methods: Classroom lectures Classroom videos Daily laboratory demonstration and practice Grading (there may be only 1 test associated with this class) 100 – 90 = A 89 – 80 = B 79 – 70 = C 69 – 60 = D 59 below = F Attendance Policy Attendance is mandatory for all classroom sessions. Class Participation Students are expected to participate fully in course discussions and patient care scenarios and to interact with faculty, staff, and other students in a professional manner. Good interpersonal communications skills and patient rapport are essential in emergency medical care. Skills stations and scenarios are an integral portion of this course. Students must be able to perform required skills in a competent manner in order to pass this course. This course does require the physical ability of students to be able to kneel on the ground and provide chest compression on a manikin.
