Twelve area high school seniors honored with Rotary Ethics Awards May 5, 2009 Lynchburg, Va.—The Rotary Club of Lynchburg awarded 12 high school seniors with Rotary ethics awards for exemplifying the organization’s motto of Service Above Self on April 28 at Cattle Annie’s Restaurant. The club selected two seniors from each of the city’s six high schools, honoring them with a medallion and a presentation by their school’s principal or headmaster on why they were selected. “This day has been a respected and long-standing tradition for our club, growing in scope and significance over the years,” said Rotarian Gail Morrison, who presided over the ceremony that was attended by more than 70 Rotarians and families of the honorees. “Members of the club consider it one of the most important events in our program year.” Students receiving the Rotary Ethics Award were nominated by their schools based on their display of honesty, loyalty, and overall character, in addition to scholastic and community achievements. Past Rotary Ethics Award recipient and 1998 graduate of Virginia Episcopal School Joy Gerdy Zogby inspired the students with her comments about what the award has meant to her and offered them advice as they prepare for college and careers.
