WILL, TRUST AND BENEFICIARY DESIGNATIONS
FOR THE ROTARY FOUNDATION
The most widely used method for planned giving to The Rotary Foundation is a bequest in a Will
or Trust. Such gifts enable you to make significant, tax-efficient contributions to an organization
you have grown to love that may not have been possible during your lifetime. You may give a specific dollar
amount, certain property or a percentage of your entire estate. You may also give the remainder of your estate
after other bequests to friends and family have been completed.
Unrestricted Bequests: If you wish to include the Rotary Foundation in a Will, Codicil or a Trust, the following
sample language may be used:
Specific Amount or Percentage (choose one)
I give to The Rotary Foundation, an Illinois Not-for-Profit Corporation located in Evanston, Illinois,
the sum of $___ (or) ___% of my estate. This gift is to be placed in the Foundation’s Endowment, the
Rotary Foundation Permanent Fund, from which a spending portion will be used to support the
Foundation’s activities and programs.
Unless further directed by you, the donor, the spending portion will be directed to support Foundation programs
where the need is greatest in the world as determined by the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation.
Restricted Bequests: If you intend that a portion of the spending be directed to a Rotary District or specific
program of the Foundation, please indicate so. For example, the Foundation can honor a request for the
appropriate spendable portion to be available to District 6040. The Foundation will also honor a gift to support a
specific program or fund such as the Rotary Centers, PolioPlus, Group Study Exchange, etc. It is recommended
that you consult with Rotary Foundation staff before making this designation to ensure your wishes can be
fulfilled. Sample language for a restricted bequest might be:
I hereby give (_____% of my estate) to the Permanent Fund of Rotary Foundation of Rotary
International, an Illinois Not-For-Profit Corporation located in Evanston, Illinois. The appropriate
spendable portion shall be used for (state specific purpose/fund/program). If, in the opinion of the
Trustees of the Foundation, the need for funds for the charitable purpose described above no longer
exists at some future date, the Board, or their successors, are authorized to use these funds in the best
interest of The Rotary Foundation.
Residuary Bequests: If you prefer to include the Foundation after other important bequests are complete, a gift
from the residuary of your estate could me made:
