ROTARY SPIDER
™
ECONOMIC BACK-UP ROTATION SYSTEM
T&T Engineering, Inc.’s™ Rotary Spider™ is a safe and easyto-use rotating back-up system for top drive-equipped drilling
rigs. For drilling programs where the customer wants the drilling
contractor to provide a larger rotary table, this back-up system is
designed to deliver the level of slow speed, high-torque rotation
required to ensure drilling conditions are maintained in the event
of a top drive failure.
Designed as an alternative to a back-up rotary table, the Rotary
Spider™ allows the pipe to be rotated while continuing to circulate
the well in the event of a top drive failure. The Rotary Spider™ can
be designed to fit any rig configuration, whether as part of a new
rig build or added as a retrofit to an existing rig. To meet market
requirements, this system can be available in 17-1/2”, 20-1/2”,
27-1/2”, 22”, 37-1/2”, 49-1/2”, and 60-1/2” sizes.
ROTARY SPIDER™
THE SECURITY OF A BACK-UP ROTARY TABLE IN A COMPACT SYSTEM
T&T Engineering’s Rotary Spider™ offers the industry’s largest back-up rotary system in a very compact package. An economical alternative to a full rotary
table, a 37-1/2” rotary spider can actually be dropped into the space of a conventional 27-1/2” rotary table. This system is also built for long-term durability
and features minimal maintenance requirements.
The Rotary Spider™ features integral hydraulic motors, teamed with a choice of controls. An available choice of API split-square drive, pin drive, or tapered
master casing bushing adds to versatility of the unit. The Spider’s sealed design virtually eliminates mud contamination through the cover area or through
centralized maintenance doors.
A direct connection between the hydraulic motors and the rotating system drive
eliminates transmission, coupling, and drive train issues. This direct connection also
provides for a smaller, lighter design and easier installation. All Rotary Spider™
systems are equipped with a sealed, heavy-duty main thrust bearing for long-lasting
durability. This bearing is enclosed in an oil bath, adding to its durability and long life.
In addition, the Rotary Spider design also provides for ready access to the bearing
for quick and easy maintenance. For added security, the Rotary Spider™ features
a dual-locking system that is redundantly engaged directly on the master bushing
support and locked in both directions.
Combining a rugged design, quality construction, ease of use, and an affordable
price, the Rotary Spider™ back-up system incorporates a number of features that
ensure both its utility and its reliability:
• Designed to fit standard 17-1/2”, 20-1/2”, 27-1/2”, 22”, 37-1/2”, 49-1/2”,
and 60-1/2” sizes
• Optional master bushing support provided for API split square drive; pin
drive also available
• Precision-machined gears and heavy duty main thrust bearing for long life
