REPORT FOR SATURDAY 8th FEBRUARY 2014

NEWARK LIVESTOCK MARKET PLEDGE TO FLOOD HIT
FARMERS & THOSE MORE CLOSE TOO HOME!!
We have experienced some pretty horrific weather so far in 2014, but nothing like that experienced
by The Farming Fraternity in the West Country, and in particular The Somerset Levels.
We are reminded of the difficulties that they face in terms of flooding not only of farmland but also
of buildings, stacks and clamps of fodder and straw. To watch James Winslade have to evacuate
cattle from his farm shows the harsh reality and emotion of the flooding, but also the amazing spirit
that the Local Community have to dig in and help.
Although nearly 200 miles away, we too at Newark Livestock Market and Our Farmers are
committed to help those in need. We are therefore trying to co-ordinate sending hay, straw and
fodder to them or some Financial Aid. If you have any loads of fodder then please contact us in order
to arrange for collection and delivery to affected areas. If you only have a few bales we will be
happy for them to be dropped at The Market until a Load is ready to go. If you do not have fodder
but would like to pledge financially please make cheques payable to Newark Livestock Market and
send them to Somerset Flood Appeal c/o Newark Livestock Market, Great North Road, Newark,
Nottinghamshire, NG24 1BY. Or just drop whatever spare change or notes you have in your pockets
in the Buckets in The Market Office!
Thank You for Your Support!!! For more
information please contact James Sealy 07772 618315 or Paul Gentry 07801 032846

Steers - 134 averaged 192.36p
With bulls and cows both sharper, it was difficult to understand why the clean cattle were
still ‘lack lustre’ with only the nice bred well finished steers showing any real demand.
Ordinary bred and plainer cattle were very hard to place although the black and whites were
well sold.
Top steer today was consigned by Brian Cummings who sold Limousins to 239.5p £1221.45, Ian Stancombe sold Blue steers to 237.5p - £1258.75 and Martin Falconbridge
sold Bazadaise to 235.5p - £1234.02 and 229.5p - £1090.13 with Michael Seels selling
Limousins to 232.5p – £1518.23.
Top grossing steer today was a homebred south Devon from Messrs Foster and Copley
which made £1528.66. David and Louise Todd sold in-spec steers to £1520.33 for Limousins.
Today E grades 230p plus with U+’s 218-227p and –U’s 208-216p with R grades 200-207p
and O+’s 190-198p and –O’s 180-188p.
Meated Holsteins 160-168p and plainer sorts 148-158p.
