GREET THE TEACHER These meetings will take place on Tuesday 24th September and last approximately 15 minutes at the end of the school day. If you could keep the date clear I will send a more detailed note next week. LES MISERABLES Knutsford Academy will be staging Les Miserables in December 2013 and are inviting girls in Years 4 – 6 in their local primary schools to audition for the parts of Little Cossette and Little Eponine. Audition registration forms and details can be accessed from home@knutsfordacademy.org.uk CURRICULUM GUIDANCE NOTES FOR PARENTS These will be issued next week to give parents an overview of the work children will be doing in the different discipline areas in the Autumn Term. Enrichment activities are also documented. FORTHCOMING EVENTS Mobberley Scarecrow Festival September 15th – October 13th All classes are spending some time thinking about ‘Scarecrows’ and coming up with ‘top-tips’ for the perfect scarecrow. Author Visit – ‘Just Imagine’ Last year we worked with ‘Simply Books’ in Bramhall to explore exciting texts to share with pupils in all classes at the start of term. This project was a huge success so we are repeating the exercise this half term. We have chosen the text ‘Just Imagine’ and have booked Nick Sharratt to come and talk to all pupils on Froday 20th September in the afternoon. He is a renowned author of children’s books and will do book signing at the end of the day. Further details will follow. PHYSICAL EDUCATION This year all classes will have a session of PE led by Mrs Thomas-Wade in addition to a session of music and modern foreign languages on Thursdays. These sessions supplement the class curriculum led by class teachers. UNIFORM Thank you to all parents who have ensured that their child has returned to school in super smart uniform wearing black school shoes (no training shoes allowed).Please could you name all belongings. Outdoor coats, hats and scarves must be removed on arrival at school. PE KIT Pupils should have their PE Kit in school at all times. Kit should be kept in a drawstring pump bag (storage space on pegs). Kit should include : pale blue regulation T shirt, navy or black shorts, dark tracksuit bottoms/top for cold weather, white socks (no tights to be worn), gym shoes/pumps or barefeet indoors and trainers for outdoor wear only. ALL ITEMS OF CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT MUST BE NAMED. JEWELLERY Jewellery is not permitted however one small stud in each ear is allowed but must be worn in the lower part of the earlobe and should be removed for PE and games (or taped). Bangles, bands, friendship bracelets should not be worn in school. Makeup and nail varnish is not permitted. Unnatural hair colouring is not permitted. The Junior pupils can wear a watch which must be removed for PE. PERSONAL PROPERTY This is the responsibility of individual pupils. All children have a named drawer for their belongings. Valuables should not be brought into school. COMMUNICATION A weekly newsletter goes home on Mondays with the youngest family member in school and is issued on blue paper. Urgent letters requiring an immediate response go out on red paper. Correspondence which is of a personal nature or important nature is posted home. Text messages are used to communicate with groups of parents regarding school trips, cancellation of clubs etc. WEBSITE The website will be increasingly become a tool for parents to access information eg; calendar of events, newsletter, school policies on line. SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB Miss Brunt runs this club half termly. A note and book flier will come home this evening. CHRISTMAS CARD PROJECT Every year our pupils design their own Christmas Cards. These are then produced in packs for parents to purchase. Mrs Lisa Blockley (Year 6 parent) has been coordinating this project for the last few years and as her child leaves next year is looking for someone to take over the role of organising this. This project raises around £200.00 for school funds every year. The project is mainly run by the school it just needs organising which takes very little time. Lisa is more than happy to help and work alongside you this year. The project takes place in a couple of weeks time. If you are interested please speak to the school office or Lisa as soon as possible. Please look out for the first newsletter of the term on Monday in your child’s bag.
