Green Street Banners Project: Textile Artist Team JOB DESCRIPTION POST TITLE: STATUS: SALARY: LINE MANAGER: Textile Artist Sessional freelance £18 per hour Arts Development Officer Overview Green Street Banners is a project celebrating the Green Street Neighbourhood area of Newham. We have been commissioned to create a set of 16 textile banners that will be paraded in a carnival along Green Street and installed at Queens Market as part of a local festival. We are working with Lead Artist, Sarah Pimenta, who is researching and designing the banners, along with the methodology for public participation in their making. You will be assigned to one of five community groups to deliver a set of participatory screen-printing and textile workshops where your participants will make textiles banners to a pre-existing designs. You must first attend a training session with the Lead Artist, who will disseminate the specific methodology for this project, as well as be inducted to Rosetta Art Centre as a freelance artist. You will provide professional leadership and management in all workshops, supporting the participants to achieve the required outcomes. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in a secondary textiles activity so that you will only work with a manageable number of participants directly on the banners at any one time. Workshop Delivery Attend a training session to learn and practice the workshop methodology. Prepare for sessions and set up in advance of the workshop start time. Follow the methodology for creating the banners with your participants and encouraging them to engage in the secondary activity as well. Ensure the consistently high quality of banners is maintained. Liaise with site staff and line manager regarding any concerns. Clear up at the end of workshop sessions and clean equipment ready for the next session. Report on progress to line manager after each workshop. Professional Support To maintain a disciplined environment within the workshop space. To liaise with the site staff and line manager over participants causing concern. Communications To attend appropriate meetings where relevant and to provide feedback to team members.
