EPEX SPOT IS LOOKING FOR AN INTERN WITH EXCELLENT KNOWLEDGE OF THE GERMAN ELECTRICITY/RENEWABLE MARKET – PARIS (FRANCE) (343) THE COMPANY The European Power Exchange, EPEX SPOT, is the platform for short-term power trading in Europe. EPEX SPOT en-ables electricity producers, utilities, trading companies and industrial consumers to trade power for today or the follow-ing day, balancing their supply and demand. The markets of EPEX SPOT cover Germany, France, Austria and Switzer-land. As they account for more than one third of the European electricity consumption, the prices fixed by EPEX SPOT have a reference character for the European wholesale market. EPEX SPOT SE, a European company headquartered in Paris with an office in Leipzig, was created in 2008 through the merger of the power spot markets of the energy exchanges Powernext SA in France and European Energy Ex-change AG in Germany. Today, the staff of the Exchange reflects the diversity of its markets: EPEX SPOT employs around 60 people from 12 nations. As a key player in the energy sector, EPEX SPOT is closely cooperating with actors from all over Europe – such as Transmission System Operators, National Regulators, European Institutions and other power exchanges – to foster the integration of power markets. EPEX SPOT is one of the drivers of this process by developing crossborder trading sys-tems, Market Coupling solutions and services for other exchanges, covering day-ahead as well as intraday markets. MISSION AND CONTENT OF THE INTERNSHIP We are looking for a student intern to join the Product Design department. The candidate will, in close relation with a Senior Analyst, perform a study on the future design of Germany’s electricity market. The activities will be organized around the following work streams, and might evolve depending on the context: Work stream I: Market study of renewable support scheme reform & capacity mechanisms Review of the German and European context Problem statement, objectives and stakes Summary of solutions discussed in Germany (EWI, Ecofys, Consentec, Thüga, BDEW, EFET, ACER, etc.) Analysis of potential impacts on existing power spot markets Recommendations on EPEX SPOTs positioning (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, risks) © EPEX SPOT - All rights reserved 2 Work stream II: Market consultation Organization of bilateral discussions with stakeholders (market players, industry associations, authorities, etc.) Quantitative & qualitative analysis of discussions & survey results Deduction of possible market design adaptations or product innovations SKILLS, ABILITIES, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE The study scope will include both strong research & analysis skills as well as close interaction with EPEX SPOTs members and partner institutions. The successful candidate will have an excellent academic track record, first practical experiences in the power sector and combine the necessary skills for the required activities: Academic background in the energy sector Excellent knowledge of the German power market (market context, regulation, etc.) Solid notions on capacity mechanisms appreciated First practical experiences in the power sector Analytical, methodical and rigorous personality with a strong ability to synthesize complex topics Curious, perseverant, autonomous and flexible Ability to work within a team and in a multi-cultural environment Ability to coordinate discussions within a multi-party environment TECHNICAL ABILITIES Excellent knowledge of office tools (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc.) Knowledge of analytical or simulation tools appreciated LANGUAGE SKILLS Fluent professional German (written and verbal) is required Fluent professional English (written and verbal) is required (working language) Solid French notions appreciated DURATION & ADMINISTRATIVE ASPECTS The internship has a 3-4 month duration, ideally during the winter semester 2013/14 (Sep./Oct. to Dec./Jan.)
