London, England – April 2012:
Licensees Bowled Over by Visit to
Lord’s – The Home of Cricket
Potential licensees and promotional partners enjoy an informative and entertaining afternoon at Lord’s
Cricket Ground, courtesy of CPLG and the Marylebone Cricket Club.
In the impressive surroundings of The Writing Room at Lord’s Cricket Ground, overlooking the worldfamous pitch itself, MCC and CPLG hosted an event for potential licensing partners to learn more
about exciting opportunities to form an association with the most famous brands in the world of
cricket. The MCC’s historic brands – The Ashes Urn, Old Father Time and Lord’s - the Home of
Cricket – were showcased and the wealth of assets available under license highlighted demonstrating
the compelling offering the properties are to potential licensing partners.
MCC was founded in 1787 and is the world’s most famous and active cricket club. As well as fulfilling
over 500 fixtures every year, in the UK and overseas, it also owns and maintains Lord’s Cricket
Ground. For any cricket fan, both in the UK and globally, Lord’s embodies the very essence of cricket
and the history behind the brand is unparalleled. Cricket is followed by a UK audience of over 10
million which increases to over 12 million during The Ashes and changes to the cricket calendar mean
that England will host this world famous cricket event in both 2013 and 2015, keeping the sport at the
front of mind with both casual fans and devoted followers.
Licensees were able to experience first-hand the potential of the brand on a guided tour of the
spectacular ground including the Lord’s museum – where paintings, photographs and artefacts
covering 400 years of cricket history demonstrated the game’s development from a rural pastime to a
modern international sport. They were then entertained by fascinating stories while sitting in the
futuristic J.P. Morgan Media Centre, one of ‘The Fifty Best Buildings in Britain’, before a visit to the
players’ changing room gave everyone a taste of how it might feel to prepare to run onto the worldfamous pitch .
Explained Nicola Thompson, Senior Commercial Manager, CPLG UK: ‘’We are able to offer licensees
and promotional partners a unique opportunity to form an association with these three iconic sporting
brands and with the success of the England men’s team in the past two Ashes Series and the
prospect of the 2013 and 2015 Ashes Series ahead of us, this is the perfect time to take these brands
outside the gates of Lord’s.’
Elly Ford, MCC Marketing Manager, said: “It was great for us to be able to host CPLG and potential
licensees here at Lord’s. There is so much behind these walls that people are surprised to see when
they get here and it’s the best way for us to showcase what our brands are all about. We are
delighted to be working with CPLG to help us take our iconic brands outside the walls of Lord’s.”
