CCC 407

Landis (SEM), Brandy Young (SS), Dave McCament (Health Science), Sarah Jaffray (Fine Arts), Santanu
Bandyopadhyay (Research), Randy Martinez (SS), Susana Jianto (BUS/CIS), Renay Laguana (Counseling),
Greg Cavin (SS), Nancy Deutsch (Staff Dev)
Absent: Margaret Mohr (PE), William Pashaie (Library), Arthy Venkatesh (Student)
Status Reports:
Ben Izadi
 I have not checked the latest Blackboard postings. I will give you an update before our next meeting. I
had individual meetings with the CIS/BUS division coordinators to develop program SLOs. So far the
CIS department has submitted their program SLOs. I am having more one-on-one sessions with faculty
members to complete reports. I will document the hours in our worksheet.
Randy Martinez
 I am spending most of my time helping faculty members complete their course reports through one-onone sessions. I have recorded all the hours for documentation.
Dave McCament (Health Science)
 I am working with Randy and Ben to provide assistance to Nursing faculty to finalize their reports.
Carol Green in Dental Hygiene is also working with Ben and Randy to complete a sample course report.
The Mortuary Science has submitted 8 course reports.
Brandy Young (Social Science)
 Social Science will likely close the loop on approximately 15 or so courses this semester. Some faculty
members are collecting data this term but have told me that they do not expect to finish writing the
course report until Fall 09. I am encouraging people to close the loop this semester if at all possible.
Lenore Landis (SEM)
 The SEM division has closed the loop on two more courses, increasing our percentage to 9%. Each
department is currently working on defining programs.
Alison Robertson (Language/Arts)
 The LA division is currently working on all stages of the SLO process for various classes. There should
be several loop closures by the end of the semester.
Sarah Jaffray (Fine Arts)
 I have asked Fine Arts department heads to give me a general number of how many reports they will
have completed by the end of the semester. Only one department has given me a number: Music plans
to have 8 completed. Art has 1 report completed, by me. I plan on completing an additional 2 reports.
Theater has completed 2 reports this semester. Journalism has recently completed all of their
SLO/CATs and I will be posting them to Blackboard for them soon. A minor problem has arisen: many
departments have had questions about the Union's move to get compensation for SLO work. Some
faculty members believe that they should not do any more SLO work until they have received
compensation.
Renay Laguana (Counseling)
 Reports have been submitted for 3 courses. Three additional courses to complete reports by end of May
2009. We still need to complete the loop for 9 classes.
Susana Jianto (CIS/BUS)
 There has not been any change since last month. I have worked with the CIS coordinator to develop the
program SLOs for CIS.
Richard Hock (CTE)
 Over the past month, two departments have had one-on-one meetings. Automotive Technology has
posted a report to complete the loop for one course, with other courses to follow. The division is
moving forward with program SLOs.
Schedule for completing course reports (Ben)
 We have only 3 semesters left to finalize all course reports. I will modify the status worksheet to include
an additional column “Scheduled Date”. I will send the revised worksheet to all of you to make sure all
the courses are current and indicate the “Scheduled Date” of completion.
Approving item 8 of the FAQ
 Randy proposed the following revision for the item 8 of the FAQ:
Frequent completion of the "loop" cycle (i.e., once every 3 years) is recommended to ensure the integrity
of the SLO process. Courses assessed every three years are those that are tied to programs, certificates or
degrees, courses that are currently being revised, or those in which frequent assessment is necessary
(such as courses that have frequent technology updates.) Some courses might need to be assessed sooner
than three years. Courses with assessment results that require quick action should be re-assessed as soon
as possible (e.g., during the next year or when it is taught again after the action specified to enhance the
course is taken).
For courses that are taught infrequently or courses that are not tied to any program, certificate or degree,
the SLO loop can occur every four to six years. Once every six years is the minimum assessment
guideline in order to follow the curriculum review requirement of once every six years.
The committee approved the revision.
Program SLO Forum
 The following announcement was approved for the program SLO forum:
You are invited to participate in the
Faculty Forum for Program SLOs
in BUS-203
on Wednesday, April 22, from 3 pm to 5 pm
Flex credit is available for this event.
Goal: To participate in a forum to discuss the status of the SLO process and define the program
SLO process for Cypress College
Come participate in the dialogue. Share your ideas and concerns.
Adding “Submitted” & “Finalized” columns to status worksheet
 It was approved to modify the status worksheet to include “Submitted” and “Finalized” columns. All
faculty members will get credit under the “Submitted” column as soon as Ben receives their reports.
Each report will be reviewed and suggestions will be sent to the authors for further revisions (if
applicable). Upon completion of revisions the faculty member will get credit for their reports under
the “Finalized” column of the status worksheet.
Institutional Effectiveness Task Force Update
 Santanu and Nancy presented the IE plan to the leadership group and had positive responses. They
will follow up with the final revisions and present the plan to the Senate for approval.
TracDat Training
 The TracDat training is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday (5/26/2009) and Wednesday (5/27/2009).
All the ESLO members are invited to participate.
