Job Title: Theatre Manager, Redgrave Theatre Suggested salary: £27,000 pa Responsible to: Theatre Director Responsible for: 1 Technician, 1 Duty Manager, 1 Box Office Manager and casual staff as required Prime Function: To ensure the smooth running of Clifton College’s Redgrave Theatre for both internal and external events and maximise revenue; develop courses and special events, eg. “streaming of live events” . Be responsible to the Director of the Redgrave Theatre, the Director of CCSL and the Bursar of the College who form the Theatre Committee College Events • Work closely with all College departments to produce and maintain a professional standard of events • To work with the technician to design set, staging, lighting and sound for College productions. Work closely with the technical teams and the Drama departments to benefit the productions, enhance the student’s theatrical experience and promote theatre at Clifton. • Provide support as needed to the Director of Drama and the Pre and Butcombe drama teachers in advance of and during their school productions • Assume the role of Technical Stage Manager during College Productions • Supervise and staff the technical teams as they work on college productions • Generate detailed risk assessments for each production - ensuring that all Health & Safety policies are adhered to • Oversee all purchases and hire of equipment relating to college productions, ensure pricing is competitive and all college purchasing procedures are followed. • Assist the Upper School Drama department with practical demonstrations and talks about theatre design for technical pupils • As required organise staffing and equipment for theatrical events elsewhere on campus (i.e BMH, Hallwards, The Avenue Studio, Pre Hall and Commem marquees) • Assist with the running and maintenance of equipment in The Avenue Studio, Guthrie Studio and Pre Hall • The Supervision of college events will require flexible shift patterns including long hours and some evening and weekend work • TOIL and Holiday cannot be taken during College production weeks or the start weeks of term External Events • Act as the main point of contact for all external hires of the Redgrave • Be present in the theatre during office hours in order to deal with enquiries • Ensure hire rates remain suitable and competitive for the services supplied. Ensure profit margins are maintained • Negotiate terms of use with external companies, draft hire contracts and ensure payment of deposits • Develop booking and contract packs for hirers • Manage stock, staffing and licensing requirements for the bar. Ensure profit margins are maintained • Manage cashing up and banking reconciliation from the bar receipts in conjunction with the Finance Department • Manage the Redgrave’s website, Twitter and Facebook pages that will promote both the external events and the College as a whole • Manage The Redgrave’s presence on other websites (which currently stands at 9 different sites) – ensure the theatres details remain correct and that the ‘What’s on’ guides are up to date. • Oversee the production and distribution of the Redgrave Theatre’s twice yearly programme. • Oversee the Redgrave’s monthly listing in ‘The Bristol Listings Collective’ • On completion of an external hire, manage the raising of invoices and debtor chasing in conjunction with the Finance Department and CCSL • Act as Line Manager for the Technical (2 full time, 4 casual) staff. Ensure that technical requirements for events and health and safety conditions are met • Actively promote the Redgrave Theatre in Bristol and beyond as a venue for hire by companies and/or individuals • Ensure high levels of support and care of artists, audience and hirers at the Redgrave Day-to-day running of the Redgrave Theatre This role has overall responsibility for all aspects of the day-to-day running of the Redgrave Theatre; including: • Act as the designated license supervisor for the Redgrave Premises Licence. Ensure all licensing conditions are met. • Liaison with the Health and Safety Adviser, the Estates Department, Domestic Services, Catering Services Manager and the Porters to ensure smooth operation of the building in terms of H&S, maintenance and upkeep of the building and security. This requires regular attendance at Horizon meetings and Support HODs meeting within the College • Writing and updating operational procedures and guidelines ensuring they are current • Working closely with the Technical team regarding daily use and access to the building. • A comprehensive understanding of how all features of the building operate • A good understanding of all licensing and H&S legislation, proactively maintaining current thinking and adopting best industry practice • Devising the yearly Redgrave budget based on predicted income and outgoings. Ensuring that specified targets are met • Overseeing all purchasing relating to the theatre and bar ensure pricing is competitive and all college purchasing procedures are followed • Oversee the Technical maintenance of the theatre equipment – ensure everything is kept in good working order • Manage the Technical teams’ hours and holiday allowance ensuring any TOIL accrued during college productions is taken at suitable times • Overseeing the training of both Bar and Technical Staff • Perform regular Inventories of equipment in order to monitor losses or breakages • Carrying out monthly bar stock takes • Maintain and develop the Redgrave Theatre’s recycling and Carbon reduction programs
