Environmental Health Physicist, Risk Assessment, OR Radioecology Specialist The Desert Research Institute's (DRI's) Division of Hydrologic Sciences seeks to hire a person with expertise in environmental health physics, human health and ecological risk assessment, radioecology, or other relevant professional experience to support its growing research programs in risk characterization, radionuclide monitoring, environmental remediation of contaminated sites, and nonproliferation. Primary responsibilities and opportunities for this position include basic and applied research in environmental monitoring; radiological risk assessment; emergency response planning and training; air-contaminant transport and inhalation dose assessment, particularly for PM2.5 particulates; DRI’s research concerning the proposed Yucca Mountain geological repository; and other human and ecologic exposure analyses involving groundwater and surface water. Applicants are expected to possess appropriate professional experience including: M.S. degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience in Environmental Health Physics, Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment, Radioecology, or related field. Experience with the evaluation and characterization of risk associated with radioactive contaminants in water, air, and soil, as well as knowledge of regulations governing acceptable concentration levels and other measures of exposure. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally knowledge of environmental hazards to other professionals and the public, including effective risk communication. A record of professional reports or publications, presentations at professional meetings and in public settings, and peer-reviewed journal articles. Ability and willingness to obtain a U.S. Department of Energy “Q” clearance, or currently be in possession of a Q clearance or equivalent credential issued by an agency of the U.S. government.
