About the assessment days
The days are for individuals wishing to gain authorisation to act as a climbing instructor or supervisor
on manmade climbing walls. Each day is for assessment only and individuals presenting themselves
for assessment must have the appropriate experience and training. The days are also suitable for those
leaders wishing to be assessed to Guide Association Level One Instructor.
This is a practical assessment designed to test your knowledge of the activity and your suitability to be
a climbing instructor / supervisor. The assessment will not include any set up situations designed to
“trap” or “trick” the candidates. You will not be required to take notes of any sort as free handouts are
provided, if required.
The day is designed to be a learning experience as well as an assessment. It will therefore include
some workshops designed to strengthen and increase your knowledge of the activity.
Candidates must attend the whole day and places are limited. Places must be book a minimum of 14
days in advance.
Requirements for the day

There is a basic charge of £10.00 per person payable on the day. For the assessments on
natural rock candidates will be expected to share the cost of transport to the crag.

Please wear appropriate activity dress including wet weather gear as, barring very heavy rain,
the assessment will carry on whatever the weather.

Please bring a packed lunch. Hot and cold drinks provided.

Please bring along a copy of your logged experience, proof of training courses attended
and current first aid certificate if you have one (essential for Guide Level One but not for
Scout permits).

If you have your own equipment please feel free to bring it along and use it but all equipment
will be provided if it is required.
