Student-led Conferences – GREAT FEEDBACK!
This was our second year of conferences
Numbers were lower this year due to the timing of the conferences, however satisfaction rates were
high
 95% of advisors were happy with conference outcomes.
 95% of freshmen and 98% of their parents loved the conferences and would do again.
 88% of sophomores and juniors and 96% of their parents felt that way also.
 Interestingly enough, 96% of seniors and 93% of their parents felt it was worthwhile. Seniors used
conferences as practice for Oral Boards
 Student-led Conferences and student-driven scheduling were the missing links in our program and
we highly recommend that all schools implement these both for community and parent buy-in and
for student ownership of educational opportunities.

 The conferences allow students a chance to open doors into their lives that parents may not
share often. Students and parents shared insights about what is important and relevant for the

Freshmen:
 It was helpful and my advisor was very helpful in getting me the classes I wanted.
 I think I could have done better, but I will next year. I should have looked at and practiced it
before we came to conference but next year will be better.

going and all my work.

 I found this meeting very rewarding to be a part of my daughter’s accomplishments. To see and
hear hands on how she is doing truly makes me feel very much a part of her goals and where
she started to where she is now. Thank you.
 It’s nice to touch base with the school in the fall and spring. I like to see the progress of my
student’s PREP file.
 Really great allowing my daughter to lead the session. She seemed very comfortable with her
instructor and has a desire to improve. Truly appreciate this block of time to help build her
confidence. Thank you!

 I like it. It prepares me for future interviews. It helps with my speaking in front of people.
 I like how we did our schedule
 I really like participating since I wasn’t able to last year. This has really helped me to see what I
have accomplished and what I need to accomplish.

I think this is an awesome experience for both the parents and student. The student can show
their accomplishments throughout the year as well as their progression towards graduation. It
also gives the parents the opportunity to help their student in areas that may require assistance.
She has done a wonderful job! I am proud of her! I like looking at the profile. I was able to see
my student’s progress and changes that were made.
This program appears to help my daughter see her strengths, as well as areas of focus. It helps
her become aware of how her current activities and accomplishments set up her future. It seems
to be extremely helpful for planning.
This conference showed both of us that he needs a solid goal to succeed.
Juniors
 This helped me learn how far I came even though I didn’t know how much I had accomplished.
 It helped me get what I want to do with my future on the table.
 It went smoothly and it is a good way to improve communication skills and prepare students for
college and Oral Boards.
Junior Family Feedback
 The student led conference was excellent. My daughter did a wonderful job in explaining her
career goals. We now know that she has great leadership abilities. She has a lot of self
confidence and is open minded to try or learn about future career goals. We are proud of her.
 I really like this form of conference because it gave me a chance to be a part of the school.
 Great opportunity for students to present and talk about accomplishments, etc. Good speaking
experience for them!
 Enjoyed the information, and impressed with the amount of work that goes into the notebooks,
both by the faculty and the students. 

 I thought the conference went well!
 It was a good opportunity to get prepared for Oral Boards as well as show my parents the work
I have done through the years.
 I feel that it does indeed take the edge off of public speaking activities, such as Oral Boards.
Also it gives you a chance to show your parents what you have been doing.

 Very organized and impressive.
 Really interesting listening to how my son put his presentation. I learned about what he wants
to do in life.
 I think it is great to involve the students in the conferences.
 This really gets the student to talk about things that we would not think of without the
conferences.
 I think student led conferences are a good way to bring the parents into the school. It gets them
to be more of a participant in their kid’s education.
 I think it prepares the student for Oral Boards, speaking and “leading” a presentation
 We feel this is a great process for both students and families. It is a great way for us to see what
our student has been doing. It is also great practice for him to speak and present. Thank you!
There is always room for improvement, but we are SO pleased with the program!
