West Coker Church of England VC Primary School Headteacher: Mr Darren Troake office@westcoker.somerset.sch.uk 4th September 2015 Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome back to a new school year. We hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are feeling refreshed after the break. We would like to warmly welcome Mrs Smith who is teaching in Discovery Class and also the children and parents who have joined our school this week. We are all looking forward to an exciting new school year! The school is looking superb thanks to the teachers and Debbie who spent time preparing for the children to return. It’s lovely to see the children looking so smart in their uniform – please make sure this is named, so items can be returned to their owner if they get mislaid! Mrs Crisp – As many of you will have heard, Mrs Crisp’s husband Stuart has unfortunately suffered a serious brain injury during the holidays. Mrs Crisp will be absent from school throughout September as she supports him with the crucial early part of his rehabilitation period. He is on the road to recovery, and we all wish him the speediest journey possible. I am sure you will all join everybody here at school in supporting Mrs Crisp and her family through this challenging time. Swimming – letters have gone home today regarding the arrangements for swimming this term. Rocket Class and Voyagers start their sessions next Monday (7th). Please remember your kits and contributions. Sweatshirts – School sweatshirts are now available through the office. There are a range of sizes in school at £9 each. Office – Mrs Geeson is back in the office on Monday/Tuesday 8.30 am – 3.00pm and Wednesday mornings until 12.30 pm. Miss Brady will be in the office on Thursday and Friday mornings 8.30 am – 12.30 pm. Universal Free School Meals – Don’t forget that all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to receive a free school meal. If you haven’t already done so, please complete the Universal Free School Meal application form and return to the school office. (Forms available from the School Office). High Street, West Coker, Yeovil, Somerset BA22 9AS Tel 01935 862568 www.westcoker.somerset.sch.uk e-safety – The staff in school received e-safety training as part of our Inset this week. We teach children how to use technology safely. If you would like to support this at home, there is a lot of useful information at: http://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-childrensafe/online-safety/online-gaming-stay-safe-avoid-risks/ Explorer Class – Our Explorer children have a topic of ‘Wheels’ this term. If you have any old wheels or bicycle parts available to lend to the class, Mrs Free would be very grateful. Discovery Class – Mrs Smith would love to hear from anybody willing to help make up some playdough for the children. Recipes and ingredients will be provided! Please pop in to see her if you can help. St Martin’s Church Roof Appeal – Our school has very close links with the village church, so I am happy to pass on an invitation to a ladies fashion show by ‘Travelling Trends’. The event is to be held in East Coker village hall, with doors opening at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets are £5.00 from Rita (862187) or Sue (862172). Proceeds go to the roof fund.
