A report on the training course at ICARDA – Syria in the field of enhancing capability of the administrators of the electronic libraries A delegation, which was comprised of 6 trainees, paid a scientific visit to Syria according to the letter of the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research / General Directorate of Cultural Relations No. 3 / 13247 in Sept. 30th, 2007 to join a training course to enhance the capability of trainees in management of electronic libraries. The trainees were holding different specializations and representing the agricultural colleges, agricultural institutes and the Ministry of Agriculture in Iraqi Kurdistan region. The trainees were trained for a period of ten days starting from October 21st to November 1st 07 at ICARDA / Syria The training course included: 1- Taking theoretical lectures on information management. They were delivered by the information unit manager at ICARDA. 2. Taking theoretical lectures and practical training on New Gen Lib program which is relevance with the library management. 3. Discussions on Lan Teed and AGORA which are related to agricultural periodicals. 4. Exchange of information in field of library management with other group from Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Auman, Morocco, Sudan, Turkey, and India. Recommendations 1. Providing all the libraries of the agricultural institutions in Iraqi Kurdistan region with New Gen Lib Program 2. Arranging training courses inside Iraqi Kurdistan region to train the administrators of the electronic libraries. 3. Purchasing and setting up New Gen Lib program. This can be achieved through contacting with (www. New Gen Lib) 4. Participation with AGORA project to ensure agricultural periodicals. The cost of participation is 1000 US$ per year per participant. 5. Providing the electronic libraries with servers and other accessories. 6. Linking the electronic libraries all together via internet
