Title:

Behavioral Specialist

Qualifications:

1.

Certification and experience as a School Social Worker or School Psychologist

2.

Thorough understanding of best practices regarding positive behavioral supports, behavioral intervention strategies, special education procedures and mandates, particularly in the area of student discipline, Functional Behavioral Assessments and

Individualized Behavior Intervention

3.

Experience in development and implementation of in-service related to promoting positive behavior

4.

Demonstrated strengths in inter-personal skills, time management and organizational abilities

5.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable

Reports To:

Director of PPS

Job Goal:

To analyze behavioral and discipline data, provide consultation to staff and administrators, design and implement professional development, design prevention models, and provide individual and whole group intervention based on areas of identified need.

Performance Responsibilities:

1.

Reviews and analyzes behavioral and discipline data utilizing SWIS and other data sources.

2.

Conducts behavioral observations of students in order to advise staff on effective responses.

3.

Consults with staff, administrators, Planning and Placement Teams (PPT’s) and SRBI Team regarding students with particularly difficult behavior.

4.

Assists with the development of behavior intervention plans based on functional behavior assessments and data analysis.

5.

Conducts training for staff regarding classroom interventions and school-wide initiatives to address positive behavioral supports, school climate and student behavior.

6.

Works with administrators and staff to establish alternatives to suspension and review of protocols and policies related to discipline.

7.

Researches, acquires and disseminates appropriate resources for staff and parents regarding student discipline, effective parenting, affective education, etc.

8.

Works with building support staff and appropriate outside agencies to provide supplemental services for students and parents during and after school.

9.

Communicates with parents to address student behavior.

10.

Identifies and explores effective online and community programs to use in consultation with parents, staff and students

11.

Performs other tasks and responsibilities as determined by the Superintendent or his/her designee

Terms of Employment:

Ten-month work year. Salary and benefits as per the HEA contract
