CONSULTANT RADIOLOGIST MATER MISERICORIDAE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL TYPE B JOB DESCRIPTION The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital is a multi-disciplinary, primary and tertiary referral University Teaching Hospital. It encompasses The National Cardiac Surgery Unit, the National Lung Transplantation Unit, The National Spinal Injuries Unit, Regional Gastrointestinal, Urology and Hepatobiliary Unit, Regional Oncology Service, Hospital Dialysis Unit, Lung Cancer and Breast Cancer units and a comprehensive full academic medical and surgical specialty compendium. In association with The University College, Dublin it has a full medical undergraduate teaching programme, and in association with the postgraduate colleges and faculties encompasses postgraduate training. The Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital is an academic teaching hospital unit where 160,000 examinations are performed annually. The Department provides a service commitment encompassing virtually all sub-specialties in diagnostic radiology and is staffed by 10.9 WTE consultant radiologists and who represent a broad sweep of sub-specialty interest. The service commitment seamlessly incorporates an active academic programme where undergraduate teaching is carried out in association with the Faculty of Radiologists, Royal College of Surgeons and full postgraduate training is provided for 11 junior radiologists. There is an established scholarship programme with the European Society of Radiology for visiting radiology fellows. Present position is that of a general radiologist with extensive experience in cross sectional imaging, in particular, CT imaging. The post will involve plain film reporting, screening, and dedicated lists including CT, MRI and ultrasound. Experience in PET/CT imaging would also be useful given the availability of this service on site and the Mater’s role as a National Cancer Referral Unit. The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of a multi disciplinary team and together with other radiologists deliver multi disciplinary conferences and be involved in ongoing audit and research. The successful candidate will participate in the Departmental On-Call Rota. He/She will act as the local radiology lead in the development of imaging services to the MED Unit and the A/E Department. Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership qualities and an ability to deliver on targets are expected. The Department of Radiology is moving to a new department in new Mater Hospital Development in September 2012. Departmental equipment at that point will include 2 x 128 slice CT scanners, 2 SPECT/CT gamma cameras, a 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner, 6 ultrasound units including dedicated endoanal and interventional machines, 2 dedicated fluoroscopy interventional units, 5 general radiography rooms, a chest unit and an on-site PETCT facility. The current Department is equipped with NIMIS PACS. Professional Qualifications Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of radiology. 2. Age Age restriction shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs. 3. The appointment is permanent and of a full-time nature – 37 hours per week. 2. The person appointed shall be on probation for 12 months. 3.
