The funeral of Mrs. Edith E. Stow (nee Letherman) was held at the Baptist church at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. Joseph Pope of
Billings, assisted by Rev. Henry Grant, pastor of the local Baptist church. There were a large number of friends and acquaintances of the family gathered at the church to pay their last respects to the departed one.
Mr. Pope in his sermon paid a fitting tribute to the deceased. The funeral was among the saddest ever held in Laurel, due to the fact that by her death six children, ranging in age from two weeks to 11 years, were left motherless and shorn of a mother’s care and a mother’s love.
The deceased was born in Elkhart, Ind., on Feb. 2, 1880, and died March 14,
1917, being at the time of her death 37 years, 1 month and 14 days old. At the age of 19 years she united with the Dunkard church at Mayville, N.D. and continued unwaveringly in her faith and devoted to her Savior.
She was untied in marriage to Arthur W. Stow at Mayville, N. D. on Sept. 11,
1904. To this union were born six children three girls and three boys as follows:
Josephine, age 11 Marie, age 9; Alfred, age 7; Harold, age 5; Louise, age 3 and Edward
L., an infant two weeks old. The deceased is survived by her husband and all of the children. Besides these she is survived by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. B. F.
Letherman of Wakarusa, Ind.; three brothers, George M. of Canton, O., Elmer of this city, and James V. of Goshen, Ind., and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Johnson of Kokomo, Ind., and Mrs. Charles Bute, of Jackson, Wis. The father and mother and brothers and sisters, with the exception of Mrs. Johnson and James V. were here to attend the funeral of
Charles W. Cook, of Helena and Glenn G. Stow of Eaton, Col., an uncle and brother of
Mr. Stow, were also here. – Laurel Mont.
