GW Graham Grad Newsletter March 2015 Volume 4 Welcome to this installment of the Grizzly Grads News! Please make sure to read this entire newsletter so that you stay informed on what’s happening in regards to your grad year. There’s something for everyone in here! Please return unsold tickets to the office by Monday, April 7th. Draw date is Thursday, April 24th. Questions? Ask Mrs. Elliott! Mar 19 – Thursday School! 2:45 – 5:30 For those who haven’t completed Grad Trans April 10 – Valedictorian Nominations and Convocation Anecdotes Due April 13 – Vote in tutorial for the Valedictorian. April 9 and 10 – re-write session for English 12, Social Studies 11, Math, Science and English 10. See Ms. Schramm to register. May 1 – Deadline for FVDES course completion if it is needed for graduation. May 14 and 15 – re-write session for English and Communications 12, Social Studies 11 and Math, Science and English 10. See Ms. Schramm to register. June 4 – Awards Ceremony in the theatre. June 5 – Awards BBQ during tutorial and lunch June 10 – Athletics Banquet June 11 – Convocation Rehearsal at First Avenue Assembly. Different block order to accommodate this. Students will leave at the beginning of lunch and miss lunch, tutorial and fourth period. Buses will leave from and return to the school. Students will eat their lunch on the bus and be back to school before 2:30. June 12 – Grad Convocation at First Avenue Assembly Church at 6:00 pm Cost is $40. This covers the cost of the event including rental of gown and cost of the cap (Grads keep the cap!) You can have up to 6 tickets, available in the office, once your fees are paid. If you require more than 6 tickets in total, you need to put your name on a ticket request list in the office. If extra tickets are available, they will be given out on a first come, first served basis, as per the list. Tickets will be taken at the door! June 12 - Last day of classes for Semester 2. Final and Provincial exam week is between June 15th and June 25th. June 15 – Scholarship and Bursary winners to write donor thank-you letters in Room C183. This is the Monday after convocation and during the exam period! If you want to rewrite a provincial exam in June but are not currently taking the course, please register with Ms. Schramm in Student Services before May 31st. June 25 – Banquet and Dance at Shelby’s Pond starting at 5:30 pm. Cost is TBA Tickets go on sale in May. June 25 – Dry Grad (after the Banquet and Dance) at Chilliwack Landing. Cost is TBA. We still need parent volunteers. Please e-mail Mrs. Meldrum at rmeldrum@shaw.ca if you are interested. Going to Post-Secondary training? College? University? Does your institution require an official transcript? If you haven’t done so already, please see Ms. Schramm to have your transcript sent directly to the institutions of your choice once final marks are complete in June. Deadline to do this without a fee is April 30 for May submission and June 30 for July submission. Going to University in the United States??? SATs – If you are planning on attending a post-secondary institution (college or university) in the US, you need to write the SAT ( Scholastic Aptitude Test) in order to be admitted. Upcoming test dates (registration deadlines) include May 2 (Apr 6) and May 27 (May89). Come down to Student Services to find out how to register or go to www.sat.collegeboard.com. There are also training sessions available – google for it online! Planning on going to UFV, UBC, UVic or maybe others? If you have less than an ‘A’ in English 12, you MAY have to write the LPI (Language Proficiency Index) before you can register for some programs or courses. Refer to the program section and course descriptions in each university’s calendar to determine if you need the LPI score at the time of application or prior to course registration. The next available sitting for the LPI can be found online at www.lpitest.ca Come to Student Services if you have questions. UFV IS STILL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS IN SOME PROGRAMS…It’s not too late. See Mrs. Jones! Congratulations to all of you that have successfully completed your Grad Transitions! (And a HUGE thank-you to the Mr. Reid and Mr. Wiseman for ensuring you completed them!) For those students who have not submitted your booklet, the Admin Team is requesting your presence Thursday, March 19, from 2:45 until 5:30 in the library. $$$ MONEY WALL $$$ Please continue to check the money wall in Student Services for scholarships or bursaries that you may want to apply for. See Ms. Jones today or visit the school website: http://gwg.sd33.bc.ca/students/scholarships Provincial Exam Results Website – You may access the Ministry of Education at www.bced.gove.bc.ca/exams/tsw/tsw/student/ for your provincial exam results and unofficial transcript. You must have your PEN number. Scholarship Winners If you receive a scholarship or bursary from a university or group outside the school district’s program, please let Mrs. Jones know so that we can recognize you at convocation! Change of Address: Please make sure the office knows of any change of address. The Ministry of Education will only send transcripts to the addresses in our system. If they are not current, Grade 12s will not receive finals marks in the mail in July.
