ADC Testing Policies and Procedures: Information for Faculty The Academic Development Center offers academic support and reasonable accommodations to students who provide appropriate documentation of a disability. Each student who can provide this documentation and is interested in academic accommodations must meet with either the Coordinator of Disability Services or our Learning Skills Specialist to develop a profile of his/her learning strategies and assigned accommodations. Please feel free to call Ann Chalker (#3712) with any questions regarding student accommodations. Students Who Can Take Tests Through The ADC Due to limitations in space and staff, the ADC is able to proctor tests only for students who have official, updated ADC accommodation profiles or who are part of the ELAC Program. Students who have extended time accommodations, however, are not required to take their exams through the ADC. As a matter of fact, we encourage these students to take their exams in class whenever possible. We recognize that it is in their best interest to have direct access to the professor for clarification of test-related questions. What We Mean By “Extended Time” Extended time accommodations are indicated on the ADC Profile, which students should share with you within the first few weeks of the semester. Our standard extended time accommodation is defined as “time and a half” for quizzes and exams, unless a student’s documentation specifically recommends and supports the need for a time allotment exceeding that provision. If a student’s documentation recommends more than time and a half, a learning specialist will review the documentation to determine whether or not additional time is warranted. If a student in your class has an ADC Profile indicating an extended time accommodation, please allow that student the extended time provision listed on the Profile (e.g. time and a half). Scheduling Tests/Quizzes Through The ADC Students are required to give us at least two days notice when taking a test through the ADC. This allows us to coordinate coverage and space. To provide a distraction-free environment, we will be scheduling classrooms for test proctoring whenever the number of students scheduled to take a test through the ADC exceeds the space available. If you need to check on a student during his/her test, we suggest that you call ahead to see where the test is being proctored. Each student is expected to anticipate and schedule an adequate time block in which to complete an exam without missing classes or other commitments. The student should offer reasonable notice and get permission to take an exam at an alternative time (time other than class meeting for exam) if his/her schedule requires it. The Proctoring Checklist sheet offers the faculty member an opportunity to express whether an alternative time is acceptable and to indicate what options are suitable. Please let us know if you do not receive adequate notice from your student. Students who fail to provide you with adequate notice for exam arrangements may lose their right to receive accommodations for that particular test. Please talk to us for more details. Test Delivery And Return In the interest of student confidentiality and academic integrity, our policy requires that the professor or an appropriate representative from the department deliver or email (MS attachment) the exam to Loretta Rayno at the ADC prior to the exam time. After the student has completed the exam, one of our staff members will return the exam to the appropriate department assistant. Students should not be expected to bring exams to the ADC or to return them after they are finished. Proctoring Checklists We ask that you please attach a completed copy of the “Test Proctoring Checklist” to each exam (or address all the relevant questions in an email message). Just a reminder: many instructors leave the middle section of allowed resources unmarked. Please check all options that apply, or include a brief note if none of the listed resources are permitted. Also, if a student is taking a quiz/exam at the ADC, please note how much time you are allowing for the quiz/exam in class. This information is necessary for us to determine the appropriate extended time provision. If you choose to email the exam, please address the relevant sections of the checklist (time, allowed resources) in your email message. ADC 9/06
