To a “History Mystery” Day Trip
With Peoples Bank Platinum Club

THURSDAY, MARCH 1, 2012
We’ll depart for our mystery day of adventure from Peoples Bank in Magee at 7
a.m. Please park on the lower side of the shopping center parking lot. We’ll take
a rest stop on the way.
Arriving at our destination, we’ll meet our tour guide to learn about the town,
which is one of the largest historic districts on the National Register of Historic
Places in the United States.
Then we’ll be off on our tour to enjoy the architecture and hand-craftsmanship of
three beautiful churches built before the 1840s. Each house of worship has a
special story to tell, and each is still in use today.
Our next stop is a museum in a 19th Century store on Main Street. This museum
houses a collection of personal and military memorabilia belonging to the greatgrandfather and grandfather of a well-known current Washington political figure.
A local restaurant in the heart of downtown will provide lunch for us. Enjoy
homemade chicken pot pie, broccoli casserole, fresh salad, rolls, iced tea, and
bread pudding for dessert, all included in your tour price.
After lunch, we’ll tour select historic Southern homes. One home was used in the
film version of William Faulkner’s The Reivers. Another features a framework
built of hand-hewn materials. A third, built in 1841, once belonged to the
patriarch of the family that started the Jitney-Jungle grocery store chain.
Our tour of homes will be followed by some free time to explore the charming
“Pickett Fence” shopping area. Enjoy browsing through arts and crafts, antiques,
and uniquely Southern gifts. After our shopping time, we’ll board our
motorcoach, play a few games for prizes, and arrive in Magee about 6:30 p.m.
TOUR COST: $95 Per Person, based on 33 passengers; $80 Per Person based
on 43 passengers. (Any rebates due will be issued on trip day.) Friends of
Platinum Club members are welcome!
