Job Description and Person Specification ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT, ST PAUL’S INSTITUTE AND FORUM Background St Paul’s Cathedral is the mother church of the Diocese of London; it also has a national and international role as the cathedral church of the country’s capital city. The Cathedral is first and foremost a place of worship. It welcomes over 1.7 million visitors each year and is the venue for major national and state services as well as concerts and other special events. St Paul’s Forum is the Christian adult learning programme at the cathedral, open to all. The programme includes public debates and conversations about matters of Christian faith and spirituality, workshops, Sunday lunchtime author talks, meditative services, retreats and other events. Established in 2009, it is a developing programme. St Paul’s Institute was established by the Chapter of St Paul’s in order to recapture the Cathedral’s ancient role as a centre of public debate. The Institute’s mission is to stimulate dialogue on contemporary economic and financial issues and to focus on the need for positive values systems, rooted in the Christian faith, to inform our modern global society and help re-envisage our financial system as a force for the common good. Details of the Post This post presents an opportunity particularly suited for someone who wishes to become involved in organising Christian adult learning events and influential public debate on the relationship between finance, economics and social wellbeing. Responsible to: Canon Chancellor through the Manager of St Paul’s Institute and Head of St Paul’s Forum. Role To offer administrative assistance to the Manager and Directing Team in setting forward the work of St Paul’s Institute, and to the Head of St Paul’s Forum in delivering Forum programme. 1 Duties Under the direction of the Manager of St Paul’s Institute: to provide general administrative assistance to the work of St Paul’s Institute. This will primarily involve maintaining a mailing list, updating and development of the website, external communications, event assistance such as filming and audience management, and contributing to the outreach activities of the organisation. Under the direction of the Head of St Paul’s Forum: to provide general administration for St Paul’s Forum. This will primarily involve administering events in the cathedral, liaising internally and externally to ensure their smooth delivery, ticketing for paid-for events, maintaining the mailing list and database and organising mailings. Training will be provided. General The post will require: Compliance with Health & Safety requirements, including making Risk Assessments. Compliance with the Cathedral’s Safeguarding Policy. Compliance with the Equality Act. Person Specification The ideal candidate will be: university graduate, ideally in theology, economics, politics, social sciences or philosophy and will have: excellent IT and social media skills copyediting and proofreading skills the ability to work efficiently under direction and in a team administrative experience 2 broad general knowledge of current social issues. An informed interest in economic and financial issues would be desirable. sympathy with the Christian mission of St Paul’s Cathedral experience of event management is highly desirable Key Terms and Conditions of Employment Location : Based in the St Paul’s Institute and Forum office, Amen Court Hours of work : 5 days per week (9am – 5pm) including ten Sundays per year and occasional evenings. On such occasions time off in lieu will be granted. Salary : £21,000 per annum Holiday : 33 days (inclusive of all bank holidays) Pension : Entry to a contributory money purchase pension scheme is available.
