Short entry – good trade.
Friesian (10): Weaned types November born to £118 per head. Fresh
rearers to £44 from C & E Best, £15 - £33 from J D Wright & Son. Plain
types £5-£10.
Hereford (12): Bull calves on offer today topped at £164 from B J & D
Reeves, weaned heifers from Stevens Farms to £152, £148 for K D
Sheridan, £134 for younger sorts. Fresh heifers to £105 from A T
Bennett & Sons, £88 for B J & D Reeves.
Charolais (2): Bulls to £214 from E & H M Sheldon & Sons, heifers to
£132 for B J & D J Reeves.
Simmental (11): Sold very well to a top of £240 and £232 from Lodge
Farm, £230 and £222 for B J & D J Reeves, 3 at £220 from M L & J
Bowen, £218 again for Lodge Farm.
Limousin (4): 4 weaned heifers froward from Stevens Farms at £164.
British Blue (8): Bulls topped at £228 from C & E Best, £202 for M F &
R Jones, £194 for Tony Little, heifers to £160 for W J Tinney.
Angus (3): Weaned bulls to £188 for Mr Ramsden, £130 for similar type
heifers.

A Genuine Reduction sale of the prize Winning Howe Mill Estate Belted
Galloway Cows & Calves & Followers saw tremendous demand with
Registered Dun Cows (00) and Registered Dun heifer calf (Sept 07) to
£1,220 and Registered Black Cows (03) with bull calf £1,180.
Registered Black heifers (Jan 07 £1,300, the Registered Dun Stock Bull
(06) made £500. The cows and calves averaged £1,009.

heifers to £515 (127). Alan Cook presented some excellent Cont x steers/
heifers, his British blue x steers (May 06) £682 (133), Simmental x heifers

Another good entry saw a much improved trade with all weights needed.
The good handyweight hoggetts traded between 125 – 130p/kg with best
sorts 140p/kg+ topping at 156p/kg £60 for 38.5kg from M/s P & C
Houldey. The medium & heavyweights traded generally between 115 –
120p/kg topping at 125p/kg £60 for 48kg from Mr C Benson.

A very good trade with the best ewes in demand topping at £60 (twice)
for Suffolk & Continental ewes. The best Mules sold to £36.50 with the
half meated ewes well sold £32 - £36. Small & plainer ewes sold
between £20 - £27. Rams sold to £40.

Another pleasing entry met a good trade with very few stronger sorts on
offer topping at £42. Medium term hoggs traded between £33 - £35.
More smaller long term hoggs on offer traded between £24 - £30. Overall
average £28.90.
70 BEEF CATTLE

Average: Steers 115.6 p/kg, Heifers 117.2 p/kg
A shorter entry with a high percentage of Friesian steers on offer. Trade
was again very strong with the best cattle selling over 135p/kg and Steers
topping at 165p/kg for a Limousin from Mr J Comer and Heifers to
140p/kg for a Limousin from M/s K Berry & Son. The good commercial
cattle seemed well sold trading between 120 – 130p/kg. The Native
breed cattle sold to a good trade with Angus steers to 126.5p/kg from
M/s B J Ford & Sons & Friesian steers sold to 115p/kg from M/s H P
Nicholas & Sons. Young bulls met a strong trade with more needed,
Limousin’s sold to 149p/kg from Mr M Potter & Friesian’s to 122p/kg

A shorter entry met an unbelievable trade with the cows seeming dearer than
the clean beef. The well fleshed fed cows sold over 90p/kg topping at
107.5p/kg £822 for a 765kg Friesian cow from M/s P & C Jenner with Blue
cows to 100.5p/kg £728 from the same home. Half meated cows seemed
exceptionally well sold between 78 – 90p/kg.
Overage steers sold to
119.5p/kg for a Shorthorn from Mr V Cook with Heifers to 122.5p/kg for a
Limousin from Mr Q Jacob.
