Friesian (4): A very smart bull calf from K D Sheridan topped at £140, others £20-£40 all going to rear. Native Breeds (7): Best Hereford bulls topped at £235 for K D Sheridan, £192 for J Millard. A single Hereford heifer £100 for B J & D Reeves. Angus bulls topped at £160 and £140 heifers to £114 all from M/s Malswick Farms. Continentals (28): A cracking Charolais bull from D J Spratt topped at £272, Simmentals from F D J Bennett, Cromhall made £262, medium blues sold to £205 and £173 with small Continental bulls £120-£150. SPECIAL SALE OF WEANED CALVES 10.30 am – Auctioneer: Ben Baggott A very pleasing entry for the May Special Sale with over 40 calves forward selling to a very strong trade. A December 07 British Blue heifer made £322 for Malcolm Tucker. M/s P T Hinds sold British Blue steers (4 months) at £370 per head their similar aged heifers made £320, Messrs Malswick Farms consigned a strong run of Blue calves their September calves topped at £355 and £325. November born blue steers made £305, Hereford steers and a Simmental steer £295 (October born). Smart Limousin and Angus heifers of similar ages made £278. The herd currently averages 8164 litres at 3.74% bf, 3.24% pr with a rolling cell count average 233. The herd is fed a simple grass and maize silage based diet with straights to include maize, gluten, Soya and Minerals. The herd is young (75 first to third calvers) and is predominantly an autumn calving herd with 78 calving August to December. The herd is closed and TB tested clear on 7 th April.
