THE WINDY NEWS
E XTRA! E XTRA!
Wonderful Windsor
Yes Readers, it’s that time of year again,
time to prepare yourselves for the fun and
frolics - oh and the tennis - at the Ulster
Hardcourt Tournament. Windsor is getting
ready to welcome the good, the bad and the
definitely-could-do-betters from Thursday
20th August to Sunday 30th August - with a
couple of days off in between to allow you
back to school for a quick rest from the fun.
The Fitz brigade will be back in Belfast just
in time to do battle with the best of the rest
before the school bells ring so make sure
you get your entry form in Tuesday 18th
August.
Greg will be trying to direct us all and keep
the office a quiet, sane place conducive to
hard work and as usual he will fail
miserably.
Aoibhean Kelly and Lucy Octave have also
joined the team this year as Communication
Directors. We realise this is a challenge for
this quiet duo but hopefully they will
succeed in communicating anything we
should know about and definitely that which
we shouldn’t know.
That’s the team so come and see us in the
office and give us your gossip.
Team Windsor
Windsor is the official end of the UTP
Points race for 2008/2009 and the points
earned here will secure entry into the Ulster
Branch Junior Masters Tournament to be
held the weekend after our Finals Day.
Those finishing in positions 1-8 in their age
group will be invited to enter this prestigious
event and therefore points at Windsor really
do mean prizes. This years Masters is being
held in the South Eastern Region and being
organised by Jim Watt and Simon
McFarland – no, that’s not a joke and we are
also going to be amazed if it goes to plan!
After last years very successful event in the
Southern Region they have a lot to live up
to. So make sure you take your last chance
to qualify and get your hands on one of
those lovely silver cups. Anyone wanting to
know what their chances are should contact
Ben McAllister who is the instant expert on
all things to do with the UTP.
We will all be back in the office again from
dawn to dusk
Ryan Gamble is back this year and can
hardly wait to spend hours outside watching
all the great tennis and the exceptionally
good on court behaviour – no, David Acum
and Omar Mowlood are entering but will be
taking an enforced vow of silence before
play begins. – Asked for his pre tournament
predictions Ryan told us “I predict glorious
sunshine, fantastic tennis and Alex Fowler
to make it past the first round”. Now there
is ridiculous optimism if ever we heard it.
Once again the hub of operations in the
office will be controlled by computer wizard
and tennis impresario Chris Sanlon. “This is
definitely my favourite time of year and not
just because it the end of the tournament
season. I get a whole week away from
sunglasses, strange hats and Andy
pretending he can play tennis.”
Luke and Rebecca join the team this year
now their junior days are over. If the kids all
behave like Rebecca on court they will have
an easy week but if they behave like Luke
their job will be a little more testing.
The Final Hurdle
Boyd by success
It has been noticed this year that every time
Will Boyd steps out on court he is followed
by a certain female who seems to be taking a
more than healthy interest in his
performance. “Its not my fault I am the best
looking Under 16” he told us with a toss of
those glossy curls, “and who wouldn’t find
my happy-go-lucky court attitude appealing”
– eh, most of the referees actually, Will. We
won’t of course reveal the name of his
admirer – especially as her father is one of
our sponsors!
knocked out early (Alex, Paddy, etc) come
along and give it a go. Though be warned Ryon Dunbar is returning especially from
Africa intent on winning it for himself. Who
will put paid to his dreams? Well, you will
have to come along on finals day to see for
yourselves.
Fashion Police
Western Promise
The undoubted success of the tournament
season so far has been the rise through the
Under 14 draws of Ryan West. Knocking
seeds out seems to have become second
nature to the Hillsborough Hurricane. Asked
what the secret of his success is he told us
exclusively “Emily is my mentor and has
taught me all she knows and my game is
officially on fire” - yes we agree (unlike
Paddy Bell’s which seems to have officially
burnt to a cinder.)
Rushing back to Happiness
Teenage hearts are a flutter in the tennis
circuit this year as this summer has brought
the return of Tony Rush to the Ulster
tournament scene. Under 16 girls
everywhere are reaching for their lip-gloss
and borrowing Ben Neal’s mirror and
praying for the opportunity to catch a glance
off court whilst the boys are praying to
avoid him on court at all costs. “I heard the
Ulster scene was in need of some glamour”
he told us “and judging by the state of Ross
Campbell’s hair I wasn’t wrong”. Tony last
won at Windsor at Under 10 so he is hoping
to go to extremes and pick up the Under 18
trophy on his return visit. The Donaldson
duo may have something to say about that so
let battle commence.
They are busy making their list but early
comments include:
 Ben McAllister – finally out of tennis
gear; take a photo quick
 Laura Reid and Fraser McFall an award
for the cutest mixed outfits
 Ryon Dunbar - what is that under your
chin?
 Hairdressers will do family discounts Garret and Paddy Bell
 Sarah Muldoon do not wear a Mac on a
sunny day. Fashionable yes, but it really
is trying too hard
 Carlos – very cool hats
 Andy - definitely not cool hats
Early quotes
 “Nobody will play with me” Ross
“Grumpy” McFall
 “Michael Blease is my Fashion Icon”

One Point Wonder
As usual this year finals day will see the
“Stuarty Mac One Point Tournament” The
cup last year was snatched by James
Muldoon (there are so many of them one of
them had to win something eventually). It is
the last piece of silverware presented at the
tournament season so even if you have been
This is as usual the last big event of the
summer so fill in your forms today, as it’s
the last chance for you all to impress your
coaches and most importantly each other!

summer fun.
